I have been invited to a friend's ranch that has hogs. I would like opinions on taking my .223. It is a .223 wylde so it it more accurate with .223 or the 5.56. All opinions will be appreciated.....Rick

I killed a lot of deer with a 223. Last 10 years I hunted it was all I used. 55gr V Max by Hornady always did the trick. I’m sure it will dispatch a hog as long as the shot is delivered to the right place. That being said it wouldn’t be my first pick for hog hunting.

A green tip in the head will drop them quick.

I've shot a ton of them with .223's and just use fmj's. Very seldom has one got away after that. The fmj's penetrate just fine and I find my best results with them using a side shot right through the middle of the shoulder.

A .223 Wylde chamber can handle both .223 and 5.56 ammunition with good accuracy, but it is generally known to have a slight edge in accuracy with .223 ammo. However, for hog hunting, the 5.56 may be a better choice as it has more power and penetration. Ultimately, the best ammo will depend on factors such as the size of the hogs, the distance of the shots, and your personal preference. It might be worth trying out both types of ammo at the range before your hunt to see which one performs better for you.
