Stan Baker barrel identification and information

  1. I am looking at an 870 that the owner identifies as having a Stan Baker barrel. I remember a few barrels being around the club I shot at in the early 90’s being made by him. What can you tell me about identifying one and what to look for. The barrel in question is not a back bored Remington factory barrel. It is smooth on the outside with a raised rib and fixed choke. It has no identifying marks that I recognize. I remember moneymaker building similar barrels. I have no pictures and have not been able to measure the bore size yet. Any information you could provide me will be greatly appreciated.

I had one of Stan's early barrels. The finish was a bead blast, dull finish. His early choke tubes were Winchester tubes and he enlarged the muzzle area to facilitate the tube installation. I don't remember any identifying marks back then. Originally if you had a Remington barrel with choke tubes it had to have come from Stan's shop. Remington was very slow in factory choke tubes back then. He was quite an interesting gentleman.

I had one a few years back with the # 84 stamped on side which apparently indicated a tight choke

The ones I had were for Perazzis, but they accepted modified Win-Choke tubes and had his signature engraved on it.
