Anyone shoot 1 1/8oz 1100 fps for 16 yard targets ? Federal Extra-lite or Remington STS managed recoil. Can u tell any difference in performance from a standard 1145 fps load ?
    Thanks Locksaw

I have no experience with the Federals but have shot the Remington's. They are fine for singles, but
their virtue really lies in their low recoil. Another plus in my opinion is the pattern doesn't come apart
    quickly like the faster shells.

If their price is restrictive try dropping to a one ounce (Federal)load with similar speed around 1180 fps.

I shoot 7/8oz of 8`s or 8 1/2`s for singles. Very little recoil and they smoke targets.

I shoot 11/8 oz at 1145 in red AA's. 19grs 20/28 with downrange figure 8 zombie wads and a noble sport primer. Lite recoil and they break targets as long as I do my part. As slow as I am on hard rights I think 1100 would be to slow and I would not catch them.

I test loaded STS 1 1/8 down to 1130 then 1100 fps, there is no performance difference, I never notice recoil, unless it is excessive, say with steel shot, so I can't really attest to that variable. I might add though, I started all this experimentation during a cold NY winter, so I'm wearing so many clothes I can't feel the recoil anyways.

I say shoot with what is comfortable with you, The main criteria is " BREAKING THE TARGET WITH AUTHORITY".

The main criteria is breaking the target. I have never seen a score sheet that has XWA (dead with authority.)

The X is marked much darker.

I very much doubt you will notice a difference. For 7.5 shot the difference in retained energy at 40 yards vs. 1150fps is 0.06 ft/lb, and the time of flight difference is a whopping 0.0048 seconds.

You want a load that smokes singles??? 1 1/8 oz of 8 1/8`s at 1200 fps out of an IC choke. Dust balls if you do your part.

My 2 all time favorite loads were the federal extra-lite & 1090fps STS both in #8 thru a .015-.020
Choke for 16s then tighten to .030 for handicap all way to the 27. Disclaimer though lol I was much younger at the time

In 1988 I set the then HOA record at the grand shooting Extra Lite Fed 7 1/2s for all shots. They were slow but very consistent speed wise. When I checked a box or two they were within 10fps of each other. Very low recoil and great patterns too. But that was then so I have no idea about today.

Those were a little faster and a lot harder kicking. I also broke a 100 in doubles at the grand one year shooting a 1oz 8 and a silver 7 1/2. I thought the 1oz was first but somewhere about shot 70 or so I shot a broken first target and the silver bullet kicked out. I had shot a trap and a half silver 7 1/2 first and 1oz 8 second. I never noticed it. I'm not sure what that says about me.

I shot with him one day at Jaqua's when he broke a 100 straight from the 27. He shot four different boxes of shells that day.

STS 1 oz 8/12 @ 1185 was a great singles shell, too bad that stopped making it, I find Winchester ammo a bit too snappy for me.

I mark chips / --when asked, I tell them I couldn't give you a full X just for a chip.

    I've been reloading 1oz, 8's 1145's..so far they've been a great load.
Even shot at the 27 with them for grinns...broke a few.

Doubt you will experience much, if any, difference...either performance- or recoil-wise, with only a 45 fps delta.
I can feel a slight recoil difference between 1145 and 1200, but that's all.
