1 oz. wads for 1 1/8 oz. loads with dense powder

Discussion in 'Reloading Bench' started by David Vicevich, Nov 23, 2023.

  1. Loading AA HS handicap loads with Super Handicap powder and WAA12 wads. Have to reduce powder charge because I shoot at high altitude. Load is loose and pattern is scattered. Had a suggestion to tighten up by using a 1 oz. wad. Have a ton of the dense powder and would like to use it up by loading slower loads as well and thought this might be a solution. Any thoughts or experience?

It's a common solution to a common problem so if all you're looking for is a taller stack height taller wads will work just fine. Don't know what you mean by "scattered," pattern but that's a whole different discussion.

  3. Pattern is loose compared to factory loads. Please have the discussion.

  4. Someone suggested that the loose pattern maybe due to pressure being too low?

Low pressure/low speed, choke to open, distance to far. Which factory load?
