Well, they pulled it off. New President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and delegate were elected. Does this spell the end of the Sporting Clays venture and maybe our Tournament Director too? Only time will tell but we can wish the new management only the best. My understanding is the old management laid the future of the venue on the table with facts but many on the other side refuted that argument. Nonetheless, the PSSA is heavily in debt with far fewer entries than in the past. Does this mean the prima donnas will no longer be shooting only on banks 2 and 3?
Andy, can you name the new officers and delegates? It must have been a long meeting because Event 22 did not start until 11:30 AM. A lot of shooters wanted to shoot early and get on the road for home. What more can you tell us.
Dawg, not trying to step on your toes, but I talked to someone that knew. President: Kenneth Darroch Vice- Pres: Larry Shade Treasurer: Bert Schoonover Secretary: Chuck Fritzges ATA Delegate: Brian James 1st Alternate: Donald Neilson Jr 2nd Alternate: Steven Ross Jr” From the Program for Sunday's event Sunday, June 21 Office Opens at 8:00 am Program begins at 9:00 am or at the Conclusion of the PSSA Meeting Sounds like the boys should have had the meeting after the event.
Using Dawg's terminology I'll label the new group. Bold names are re-elected. President: Kenneth Darroch prima donna Vice- Pres: Larry Shade prima donna Treasurer: Bert Schoonover don't shoot Secretary: Chuck Fritzges don't shoot ATA Delegate: Brian James prima donna 1st Alternate: Donald Neilson Jr prima donna 2nd Alternate: Steven Ross Jr unknown Dawg it doesn't look good for change. You will have your answer soon at the July 4th shoot.
Is this new Delegate Brian James the type that sits on his hands or is he the type that asks for a roll call vote? I am wondering how much transparency we will get now. What is the scouting report there dawg? Will he participate in the secret vote game?
I offered much information to the powers at the top several years ago-all was ignored and I was criticized. I actually received several apologies last week from the affected individuals for not knowing a chameleon was in their midst. The all knowing 'dawg understands their remorse but is willing to move on.
The meetings never lasted nearly this long. A major part of the problem was the financials and how they related to the Sporting Clays course and its' interacting with the Trapshooting part of the operation. Plenty of questions that begged for an answer.
Well, did you apply for the position? Heck, anyone with your talent can easily manage a few shoots/year profitably for over "$100,000"/year. Heck, according to some, even Elmer Fudd would qualify
Butch, I sure know you're quite capable of doing the numbers and ATA trap numbers have declined considerably. I also know you're aware of 1,421 entries in the 2007 Singles championship and 1,055 last year. You're also aware of the $400,000 debt, much of it for the PAT traps our always complaining trapshooters absolutely had to have. Trust me, they're still complaining-maybe even more so. That said, most people, except trapshooters, already know the decline of trapshooting has been somewhat offset by the increase in Sporting Clays. The old benefactors that helped keep the PSSA afloat are dead and the new breed can't compete with old money. So, I suppose in order to make up the difference you and our fellow trapshooters won't mind paying $50.00/hundred in a few years.
Didn't Silver Dollar install 5 stand a few years ago to generate income? Try to get a spot at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays on a Saturday.
During a chat with Mr. Krieghoff himself on Saturday and reminding him how Joe Kush, Chris Maest and me designed his Sporting Clays model over a bar one evening he informed me they sell more Sporting guns than Trap guns today. How things changed!
Maybe we should suggest all the new officers be required to shoot only bank 5. After all, that's the closest bank to the main hub of operations. Fat chance!
I thought is was hypocritical that the new president came to shoot after voting no to even having the state shoot. Also, the 400K debt was approved by the board (2 no votes =Ken and Bert) so I can't see how that can be blamed on one person? The sink hole on trap 3 cost more than it should, the balance of the Pat Traps and the remaining payment to RJ Stuart make up the rest of the debt....all approved by the board! As for the sporting clays course, Jack Fishburn saw real quick that the trap line he built for the OSTA wasn't going to make him much money so he utilized his "businessman" talents and looked at other shooting disciplines that we're going to compliment the facility he had built. Why would it be so terrible to expand the land that is owned by the PSSA to build a shooting complex that can be used more than 23 day a year for trap?
Hey Zing, I just asked who's idea it was it for sporting clays? I guess no one wants to take responsibility for it. The facts are PSSA has a debt that will be difficult to pay off any time soon. If they continue on their current path the bank will own the shooting grounds.
Now Butch, you know it had to be Skip. He's the only one smart enough to realize Trapshooting will no longer pay the bills.
If the sink hole in front of 3 cost more than it should have, why would they use the same contractor to do the crap asphalt patching jobs? Bert pointed at Skip who pointed at Don when the contractor was questioned.
What went wrong with the PSSA. not long ago they had lots of cash and no debt. Now they are a sinking ship.
Butch, you're living in the past. Entries went down as did income. I'll betcha your bills went up too in the last ten years. Much less revenue and rising costs will kill any organization. Anyway, all expenditures including trap purchases and buying Stuart's program were approved.
The average price to fill an extensive sinkhole runs between $20,000 and $100,000. I believe they were already there twice.
Not many years ago it was proposed and accepted to purchase the adjacent property and expand the upper line. Fortunately, the owner refused. Where would we be today if that went through?
I guess they have to many people on the payroll. Kind of funny that someone is worth well over $100,000 to manage 23 days of shooting. BC (before chuck) that was all done at no coat. No wonder they want sporting clays, the well is drying up and all of the non-shooters that are on the payroll will need to find a real job. They need pre-squad. com, online paying and no wives, girl friends & old shooting buddies on the payroll.
Butch, Chuck didn't do it for free and his salary reflected only running the shoot for 23 days. Skip worked year round working on getting the funding and grants for the project.
Butch, as you well know the only Wives are mine and Spear Proukou's, so not sure where you're going with this?? You weren't even at the shoot and haven't been there since last year. So your only knowledge is 2nd hand and based on rumor and innuendo! Have you ever bothered to look at the 990's for the PSSA? Apparently not, or you'd know Skip's salary for the last 4 years. As for the Money, Insurance, maintenance, labor have all gone up and with an ever decreasing target count, the Sporting Clays is vital to the PSSA survival. Apparently you have an abundance of "free" time, based on the amount of posts here, so i'm sure the New EC would welcome your help with all the "paid" positions you've mentioned!
Hey Mr. G, I have no knowledge of the wives & girl friends problems. But I do know this back when we had 312 squads shooting all squading was handled by two people and there was no pre-squading. How many paid people do they have now? For the PSSA to go from a surplus to -400,000 someone is spending to much money. BTW, I never mentioned salary. I did hear the he had $27,000 in expenses last year. Is that accurate? Salary + benefits + expenses = ?. All for 23 days of shooting. Seems high to me. BTW how did you shoot this year? How about Neil or Glen? Any of those guys that don't shoot get paid? Where do I sign up to ride around on a golf cart and talk to shooters. Maybe I can get a good bank if I become one of the good old boys.
Bert Schoonover shot over 13,000 ATA targets in 2019, more than 175,000 in his career, and shot 2100 targets last week alone. What does he have to do to for you to deem him a 'shooter'?
Don't ya just like it when some fool elsewhere suggest the PSSA spend money on a complete rebuild of the campgrounds and add buildings for vendors. After all they say Trapshooting is what made the grounds great and any income must be spent with trapshooting in mind. Unfortunately, the average age of the vendors is near 70 yo and I doubt anyone is silly enough to invest in a building for 23 days of operation-especially since long (trap) gun sales have hit the skids. It's quite obvious if the individual was at the meeting he'd had his ears blocked and his thinking powers shut down. So let's spend money to lose even more or go farther in the hole-some trapshooter's logic at work!
Ok, if you have no knowledge of the Wives and Girlfriends, then how are you qualified to comment on it? $400,000 debt: $100K still from PAT Trap Purchase(5-0 Vote in favor of purchase), $120K to buy out Bob Stuart(5-0 Vote), $88K for sink hole(act of nature and just another sign of aging infrastructure), $50K remaining on golf cart purchase(5-0 vote). So not sure how this is "someone" spending to much money when entire EC approved. Not 23 days worth of work! Do you have any clue what it takes to run a shoot or the time involved? With sometimes 50+ people in line, 2 people squadding would delay the shoot by hours! And as for Neil and Glen and Casper, how would you propose getting trap mechanics or others to the traps more quickly? And what does them not shooting have anything to do with it? Which brings me to myself. I wasn't able to shoot due to health reasons, so instead I was up 6am every morning setting targets, then switching them over for doubles. In between, I would assist in classification, took over 1000 pictures and posted on Facebook, and usually closed the door on my way out after shoot offs. So keep complaining from behind a keyboard, because from what I can see it's your only current interest in PSSA and it's future!!!
Jeff, why were you up at 6AM to set targets when the job was offered to one of the new officers to help at 7AM. Oops, I forgot, he never showed up. Maybe they should have overhauled those old Superstars instead of purchasing all new traps. That would likely have saved a considerable sum and stopped all that complaining about the targets. Oops, I forgot again. They're still complaining now more than ever. In a few more years they'll be asking for more donations to replace those "old, worn out PAT traps"-then what? Did you show the new regime the location of the light switches?
Which board member was offered the job of setting targets? I'm on the trapsetting committee and I don't believe what you are saying is true. The new president and new delegate have both committed to setting targets at the PA Grand and they seem committed to a process of setting the best possible target presentation. Also, I believe that Chuck has a pretty good idea where the light switches are.
Maybe I should have said a "newly elected" officer was offered the job of helping set the traps. If you don't believe me ask Skip. Don't worry, the newly elected officer has a track record of always complaining of poor trap setting. With his vast experience we should never again receive any complaints-right?
Well, ya kno Well, ya know what I always say-call in law enforcement immediately and press charges. What I usually see is the ones pointing fingers are the ones you gotta watch.
Begging for money again for trap springs. Offering preferred banks for contributors. Trapshooting will no longer pay the bills-quote Skip.
Glad to see the Darroch's go. They moved the westy hogan to august against the cardinal classic, and look where they were this year. The cardinal. Clowns. The worst bunch of officers in PSSA history, more than likely.
