Family Guy you spent all that time at the Cardinal Center for the SCTP, what did you see? What do you think? It would be nice for you to post some words about the shoot for those of us that didn't make it to the shoot. Report please, the pictures say a lot but not everything.

    Shoot Management and design.

Director Tom Wondrash was there early in the am and you could see him handing out trophies and being the emcee in the evenings. Those were very long days.

One coach said this is a lollipop shoot. The kids shoot 25 and then grandma gives him a lollipop. When the lollipop is gone he goes back out. There is a large break in between traps. There was more than just grandma there. There was often dad, siblings, mom, and maybe an uncle. The crowd was huge. The slow moving design enables more interaction between the family and the shooter. It is a strange model, but the crowd I believe, was bigger than Vandalia. Not with shooters, but the whole crowd.

Often there were 30 people following one squad.

I think the overall crowd size caught the SCTP and the Cardinal Center off guard. More later.

Joe I think that the Biggest Draw Back the SCTP has is how they run their trap shoot by time slots instead of by squads. I've mentioned this to Jake, to Tom, to anyone that I can but to no good. When I was TD at the state shoot I figured we could run 4 1/2 squads of ATA shooters an hour for the first 100 and 5 squads an hour the 2nd 100. The SCTP kids ran about 4 squads an hour.

The SCTP uses the time slot squading because they have skeeters and sporting clay shooters that don't know how to run a large trap shoot effectively running the sctp for the most part. They waste a lot of time and labor. I've brought it up every year to the CC that they should run the trap shot portion of the SCTP themselves for the SCTP it would be so much better than the way it is.

    Brad......

It is difficult to argue with most of those points. i would add that a group that brings 30 kids may feel they have better supervision when all 5 squads are up in a more predictable manner.

I would also add that i may have witnessed the largest attended shooting event maybe ever. I doubt you will be able to talk the SCTP into changing much.

    Food

There were lots of food vendors at the Cardinal Center. More than before, but the crowd was huge. Often there were long lines. Great for food vendors right? Predicting crowd size is proving difficult for the SCTP at the Cardinal. They had 300 cancellations. How do you predict how many adults per shooter? JMHO, I think they needed a few more foodies without the other 300.

Cory is much more than just a Cowgirl but I doubt that would offend here. She was with her mom early in the event. I think Skeet is her main game.

I asked mom how she ended up with a K80 for Sporting Clays. Mom said that came from Cory showing and auction for a Champion Cow, Organic Turkey, and Pig. Worked hard for it.

I have some of her pictures below. Mom included.

Her mom is a professional photographer. I doubt my A-game in photography rivals her.

    About those trailers

If you didn’t see the shooting from the parking lots, you may have thought there was an ATV Convention at the CC. I would would guess that 1 in 4 parking spots were either an ATV trailer, or was occupied by an ATV or golf cart.

I know of camping folk that bought an RV and two ATVs. Of course all that couldn’t be put in a single campsite. And in some cases not as convenient as parking them somewhere else. Some of the ATV trailers were as big as the camper.

The CC has a rule that golf carts aren’t to be on the grass. I am guessing there were be new rules in the future. Especially since some of the ATV’s are bigger than my Civic. Just a guess.

The number of atv trailers taking up parking places was just crazy. One of the teams actually brought a semi to haul their atv's. I suspect the price of golf cart rental got everyone thinking...hmmm I've got an atv and a trailer, cheaper to just bring it along. And, yes, many of the newer atv's are HUGE. Many are also quite a bit louder than the typical golf cart as well.
