CG Summit Trap combo VS Browning 725 Combo package 32"/34"

I know the CG Summit Trap combo package is roughly $2500 more vs the Browning 725 Guns Unlimited Trap combo.
Of course I would love to save the money, but can I achieve the same results and longevity from these two packages down the road long term? \
Either one of these guns will be the most I ever spent on a gun in my lifetime and Im 61.
Any input appreciated, I have heard CG resale is not good, and others say Browning not even in same league?
Im looking for a quality gun with trouble free consistent performance over a long period of time to a hand me down to my son when Im gone.

 

I can only speak of my own experience with my 725 combo I purchased last year from GU ... I love it! It's been flawless, It's made me a better shooter and as far as I've seen Browning makes one awesome gun! I've owned several Kreigoffs... guess which gun I have kept throughout them all .. my 725 combo, it's just a perfect gun for me. I owned many guns this past year, sold them all including several Kreigoffs... I liked them all, but the 725 is my keeper. I shot a couple CG's... just didn't like the feel, the weight or anything about them... shot my 725 out of the box to a 24... shot my K gun to a 24 the 1st time out too and several 25's before selling it.. the 725 is "it" for me... check with me in a month or 2 and we'll see how I feel

 

Both are quality guns so feel confident that either choice would be a good one. You must try both to see what fits you best. That truly is the only way to make an educated decision.

 

I currently shoot a Browning 725 HR adj,32:sporting, and just the other day shot a CG Trap combo(O/U barrel) for a round of 25 birds, felt good, but it did have a Gracoil on it. I know 25 birds is hardly enough to make a sound decision, but I thought I shot it well for picking up and it not set up for me.

 

I normally shoot Browning shotguns and like them. A while ago, like you, I tried a friend's CG and liked it also. I ended up buying an older Summit Trap TA. It was rough to shoot. Not sure what the previous owner did but it was not nice. Needless to say, I sold it. I still use my friend's CG and enjoy it.

 

I own both Caesar Guerini and Browning and I find both easy to shoot. Currently, I am favoring the Caesar Guerini, it seems easier for me to point. The Guerini website spells everything out about how to submit a gun for service or repair. I think Guerini has a better layout and is easier to navigate compared to the Browning website. Eventually, you will have to shoot each gun to make your final determination. Just my two cents worth.

 

I soon will own both also, a 725 HR adj Comb 32" sporting, And I just ordered a CG Summit Trap combo 32"/34"unsingle combo. I will be my biggest critic after I have a chance to shoot the CG for a extended period of time, I had shot a round of trap with a used CG Summit Trap combo O/U that a real nice fellow at my range let me shoot. Im looking forward to the experience with the CG, I will post my feelings on it down the road some after I shoot some rounds. I just wish the CG came with a black or Brown case instead of that Red/Pink color case? LOL

 

Have owned both --CG sold me on their free pit stops -and check overs at shoots - Never had a problem - on the other hand CG won't sell you parts to do your own service work -so you have that shipping cost, delays ,and the possibility of shipping damage? -My browning its a 15 minute job and a $16 firing pin - CG it free service, free firing pin, and $100 shipping and insurance.

 

Browning pins direct from Browning are less than $7 each, I have replace my lower 3 times. your correct once you do it once its a breeze, but I also purchased some new retainer pins and springs for hammers, lockup, and return spring on one pin still all came less that $30 with shipping.

 

I have owned several of both and both are a good gun. Browning ribs seem to rattle a little more when you close them. Kind of tinny sound. I hear it all the time on the line. Also you send a Browning back for service you can plan on 6-8 months. This is where the two separate, it’s called customer service and you will not beat C.G.

The big difference is C.G. Stock has some offset built in whereas Browning is a neutral stock. So if your a big headed person that needs some offset the Browning probably won’t work for you.

 

CG makes their own release trigger.... thats a plus..

A followup question, if I bought something like the CG on the for sale adds that isn't a combo, can I buy an un-single barrel for it and expect it to fit without sending it in for work?

 

In my opinion, no. You should always have CG or qualified gunsmith check it for proper fit and function.

 

Thanks, that's what I thought. I see Perazzi parts for sale all the time, apparently not all makers need fitting to swap barrels? Or just buy a set I suppose.

 

I shot a Summit and although I shot it well had a problem in a number of areas. Like a previous poster stated having to send them ( CG) the gun when something is needed is a BIG hassle. Not only for the expense of having to do it ,but by being without the gun for a couple of weeks. Plus, as in my case the gun would open when firing it at the Grand and after taking it to the folks at CG( they have a building there), get told because of all the guns they have ahead of mine it would be a couple of days before they could get to it. Not what you want to hear when you've spent thousands just to be at the Grand TO SHOOT! The comb hardware is over engineered, its a square sleeve held down by a wire that is slipped over a round post. The wire breaks and the whole thing slides up. Plus, if you need to have the gun shoot higher ( having maxed out the rib setting) and you want the comb to go higher you have to buy new taller sleeves ( at the time $80) and taller post's! I sold mine after great difficulty finding someone to buy it and taking a major loss and bought a 725 combo from Guns Unlimited. I couldn't be happier. nearly half the cost and twice the gun! There were other issues like the rib locking up and not being able to turn the adj. wheel, the selector sliding up when shooting double's and the top barrel firing first ( never happens on my 725, or any of the Berettas and Perazzi's I have owned. Plus the finish was starting to wear off on the gun. There is a reason there are so many having to send their guns in for pit stops!!! Buy the Browning! I know there are plenty of smart Aleck's on here that will trash what I have posted, but it's my own honest experience!

 

You can get lucky with a swap but I believe all but Blazer require fitting of some sort. Not worth the risk without having a gunsmith check for fit and function.

The Bartholow family shoot really well with Browning guns--If any one gun was significantly better than the other the big dogs would use them exclusively.The most important thing is gun fit

 

Much better than either CG or Browning 725: HIgh condition K-32 Vandalia Rib combo 32"/34" with custom wood set. Only negative feature is this combo will permanently negate the need to ever buy another trap gun. Something most shooter's can't tolerate as it eliminates blaming the gun instead of the shooter.

 

The CG's are pretty guns and I think they are good guns.
However, I don't think they are better than Browning shotguns.
I have owned two Guerini's and sold them both because
I thought they handled so similar to the Browning's I own and
I don't think the CG is worth twice the price of a nice Browning.

 

Browning has been around a long time tested and true can't go wrong with Browning !!!!

One of the best guns I ever bought.

I own a K-80 TS and a Perazzi HT combo plus a Ljutic and 2 Seitz.

In my opinion the Browning for the money is the best buy in a combo today.

You can also get them in 34/ 30 or 32/30 or 34/32 RH or LH.

Move extremely well to the target.

You can also get flush mount chokes rather than extended.

Never cared for the look of a CG.
