Went and shot some trap games today. Discussion got around to shells, whose got em, which brand, cost etc What shells that are out there are all # 8s. Guy at the club said a major supplier told them that the manufacturers aren't even loading or making 7.5 shotgun shells at this time. I know I haven't seen hardly any shells out there but when I do they are all 8s. I'm sure there are a few still in supply chain but ammo companies don't see the need to run both 8s and 7.5s anyway anymore. A few other shooters say they haven't even been able to find any 7.5 shot in months. So I guess 7.5 vs 8 argument is dead for now. Have you guys seen any new 7.5 shells?
Elsie good point all the new shells I have purchased in the 21 and so far in 22 have all been 8's All that I have seen on shelves have all been 8's .There might be something to that.
Bought the 4 packs of both Federal and Winchester at Wally world last week, both were 7.5 . And i prefer the 8 but that is all they had, so bought 1 of each brand. left about 15 4 packs on the shelf. this week they had none
lately at Walmart in ohio have been winchester super target 71/2 single boxes ( no 4 packs )(no federals)
I haven't seen a 4 pack at the local Wallys in 2 years. Hell I haven't even seen more than 2 - boxes of 25 at one time at any Wally. I went out looking for shells yesterday, hit 3 Wallys, a Rural King and Academy - none of em had any clay target shotgun shells. Can I ask what Wally was charging for the 4 packs you found?
I was in the Celina Ohio Wal-Mart last Saturday and they had 8-10 boxes of AA light 8's. Price was $11.47 a box.
Bought three 4-packs at W-M in June for $27 each. My neighbor informed me yesterday that he just picked up three boxes(the max allowed) at W-M for $8.50 each. I thanked him but I am not paying that much for 'game and target' loads....
Federal lists 12 gage 7.5's on their webside...."not currently available". The 28 gage target loads are available... in 7.5's. Remington is selling Peters Paper 12 gage target loads in 7.5's (I bought some).......for $19.99 A BOX! ....and they are currently available.
I guess I should have posted this a year ago. After posting that 7.5s and Wally not having any 4 packs were a thing of the past - guess what? I was in Wally Friday and they had 4 - 4 packs of Federals in 7.5s. They allowed me to buy 3 of the 4 packs @ $29.44 a pack. First 4 packs any of the local Wallys have had it at least a year and a half maybe longer. First box of 7.5s I've been able to find too in a couple of years. As soon as I post on here that I couldn't find any 4 packs or 7.5s they put a few on the shelf. Coincidence, or they read that post and put a few on the shelves to make me look like an ass clown?? LOL..
You guys made me check while we were in our local Walmart. SWPA just South of PGH 2 boxes of #8 Rem Dove loads, $9.43 each 6 boxes Win Super Target #7-1/2 $9.43 each 4 Four packs of #8 Feds $29.44 per pack This was an unusual amount for this place. For the last 2 years they carried almost zero ammo. First went the guns then the shells. Last week the shelves and cabinet were completely empty.
No I did not. Don’t need them Since my 71 year old shooting pal of 45 years has decided to sell most of his firearms collection, components, and ammunition, we have a large quantity of factory shells and reloads if we decided to shoot a little sporting And sad to say his father in law passed away and his basements was loaded with new Remington target loads so we have those also. There has to be 10,000 once fired Fed papers(the old good ones) along with the old wads to go with them. We have more stuff than a lot of stores. He keeps saying, Screw it, what we don’t sell we’ll just shoot it up. I sold over 18,000 rifle primers to one guy last year. The 11,000 pistol primers went to 2 different people. And there’s still a reloading room full left. I’ll be dead before we shoot up all the ammo we have between us.
A friend of mine shoots a 28 for sporting clays. He was using #8 and had mediocre scores. I gave him a bag of #8.5 to reload and his scores went up.
The majority of what I’ve been seeing are 7 1/2’s when the LGS has them. I do know that since the shortage started I’m definitely seeing more 1 oz loads than I ever have
Got 2 of Fed. 4 packs last evening. Both 7&1/2's. I usually get a cart incase they have any. I didn't yesterday and they had 2 in 12ga and 2 in 20. Wanted all 4 but they would only sell me 2. Took them to the truck and when I got back the 20's were gone.
In the last 4 weeks I have bought 5 cases of federal top gun, 1 oz 7.5 and 5 cases of remington STS 1 1 /8 oz 7.5, maybe they were old stock if nobody is loading 7.5" anymore
In another thread the guys were saying all they could find were 8’s down here. Now they know which side of the border got the 7-1/2’s.
If 7 1/2 vs. 8 is dead, lets kick around what we are buying in #8's! -just lined up 6 inches of #8 eagle and 6 inches of Lawence #8 shot -Or should I say 8 1/2 eagle shot? Try tearing down some of these low end shells and check the shot size you are buying-Last three #8 cheap loads I checked ran from -#7 to #9 shot, and won't even go there in roundness!
Better check the bags of shot too When I was at RVH’s house looking at those Nobel primers he showed me some West Coast shot. He bought 4 bags of 8-1/2’s that came from CAC through a local dealer. The first 2 bags were fine. The 3rd? Not so much There was a mix of 8-1/2 and what looked like #4’s and 5’s Maybe that bag was supposed to go to Kentucky I took some home to mic it. Quality control must have taken a vacation that day. CAC replaced the bag. Bill said he never saw anything like it
Interesting thread. Just got back from Wal-Mart, where the shotshell shelves are usually empty. Today, lots of Winchester AA's ($11.49/box) and (new?) Federal High Overall Premium Competition Target Loads ($11.99/box). Only allowed to buy 3 boxes per trip to the checkout.... The Federals were new to me, and really beautiful shells: dark maroon hulls and solid brass heads. Only shot size available in any of these two target loads was 7 1/2's.
