Browning Trap Max in 34/30. Adj. ribs and rh or lh stocks. 5200.00 I had one. Little recoil comfortable to shoot very nice gun. Best buy out there and I've owned them all almost
Either really I am not opposed to used as long as it is in good shape. I just do not want to get into a brand/make/or model I am going to regret.
You might find a used Ceasar Gureini for $5000. They are great guns. A Perazzi MX3 (round mono block) would be my choice for under $5000.
You might try Joel Etchen Guns in Ligoner PA. You can get an Etchen Signature Sieries Beretta 687 combo for $5,000 + tax. There are quite a few of them at my club and I have the same model in a sporting version and it has performed well. Give them a call, Joel or Matt are great to deal with and provide great customer service. Good luck with your search. Keith

If I go new I may go the Guns Unlimited or Joel Etchens route. Is there a big difference in the Browning 725 Combo and the Joel Etchens Beretta combo?
I'm gunna say Ford/Chevy debate. All in personal preference. Any chance you could go and test drive any of them, that would be the tell on which would fit you the best.
Guns unlimited is 2 hours away so I could go there, Joel Etchens is a long way away and I do not know anyone who has one in my area.
I’ll tell you what I know from my experience. I needed an O/U to start shooting doubles. I bought 725 Trap Max and couldn’t get it to fit me worth a damn.(big guy), never broke better than a 22 with it from the 16. Traded it off on my Kolar combo. Still have my 725 unsingle I bought from Guns Unlimited as a backup. Personally right out of the box the Beretta 687 fits and feels better than the 725’s did. That’s why I chose it over the Brownings. (Looked at 725 sporting also) As Diesel_ss mentioned above trying on for size is best and finding someone to let you shoot their’s even better. Good luck, I know personally how frustrating it is to have a new gun you can’t hit shit with
K-32 Vandalia rib combo, <1000 shells fired since new (1971). custom high grade English Walnut stock headed up so it can accommodate your finished desired dimensions. Well under your budget for life time combo.
I think for new you will either be looking at the GU 725 combo or the Joel Etchen 687- both are great guns, most people say one fits them and the other does (Browning vs Beretta). I’m lucky in that I’ve had both brands of guns and I liked them both. If you can’t handle both- pick up the 725 since it is closer to you, if you don’t like it, the Beretta may be for you. You could take a gamble and just order one sight unseen, but I would take a ride and hold it before I did that. Used- there are a lot of used combos out there that would be in your price range- the two that came to my mind were already mentioned here- the MX 3 (and MX 3 Special) and the Krieghoff K32. Neither one has been made for a long time, but there are still plenty of them out there that are in fine working order. There are also the Beretta 682’s- very good guns. Another option would be to get a gun that is only an O/U or single barrel, but has the ability to add the other. You can do this with a lot of Perazzi’s, Krieghoff’s, Beretta’s- obviously some of the higher end ones may be difficult to find under $5,000- but who hasn’t gone over budget before. Good luck on your new gun- it’s always fun shopping for one. PS- Stay away from Caesar Guerini’s- they do have excellent customer service, but that’s because they need it.
Thanks everyone for your response. I believe I will go to Guns Unlimited and shoulder one. I notice they have a combo with adjustable rib on both the OU and the unsingle and another combo with just the adjustable unsingle rib. How important is it to have the ou barrels adjustable? I do want the adjustable comb,
I would definitely get as much adjustability as you can afford, at the very least an adjustable comb. To fine tune my combo to get it to shoot where I look, I tweaked the comb and the ribs on both barrels. The key is to make the gun fit you, not you fit the gun!!! Good luck, Keith
I just looked at the website and there’s a $700 difference between the adjustable rib O/U vs non-adjustable rib O/U. Is it worth it? Eh. In theory with the adjustable comb you set that to get the POI you want on the O/U and then adjust the rib on the unsingle to get your desired POI with that barrel. That can work and usually does, but if not- you will be compromising, or moving the comb when you switch barrels. Even with adjustable ribs on both sets of barrels you aren’t guaranteed that you will get all the POI’s that you want (you can’t adjust the top/bottom barrels of the O/U independently of each other), but more adjustability gives you a greater chance of getting it set up to exactly where you want it. Having said all that- a lot of people have been very successful with guns that had little to no adjustments on their guns. Your mileage may vary, spend your money how you want to.
