I have been patterning my Windjammer wad loads and comparing the patterns to the AA wads. I have read the wj wads will give you a more open pattern. I see almost no difference. Wondering if anyone has the same results.
That's the claim. My experience has been like yours, no difference. I hate loading windjammer wads too, the fingers are always out of shape and it sows me down.
While loading Windjammers "CAN" be a bit of a pain, that can be easily overcome. Toss the wads into your dryer for about 15 minutes, then take them out. You will notice all the pedals are now spread open and much easier to load. When comparing WJ wads to the AA wads, I always get much better patterns and target breaks from the WJ's, especially at long yardage. As noted above, the WJ has lower pressure and are a joy to shoot. Be aware, however, the loads using the WJ's will usually require about 1/2 grain more in powder to keep the load consistent with the AA's. I load WJ's exclusively in my 27yd. loads... Just my experience...
The drier trick works very well, I guess the heat makes the plastic relax. It's an extra step but I do like the WJ's. chris.
The only function of a wad is to keep the shot out of the powder & fill the case to crimp right. WJ's do a good job of that and the price is right.
In my opinion the windjammers are a superior wad. Lower pressures on all published data. That means less felt recoil They pattern excellent and are cost efficient. I use them for almost everything no matter the distance. If I do what I'm supposed to do the targets break!
The last WJ’s I had the pedals were connected at the top. Great HC wad. Wish someone would make them again. Dream to load.
IMHO the original WJ Wad was designed for the AA hull which was King of The Hill at that time. No one else had a hull that was as good or even compared to the old style AA! Personally I would much rather load the CB version then the DR.
