Which Shooting glasses.

I am new here and have only been shooting trap for about 1 year. I have a set of the RE Ranger phantom 2.0, but would like to upgrade.
I have searched the forum and there are many posts on shooting glasses, but a lot of varied opinions.

I am interested in the big 3, Decot, Pilla and Ranger. I don't use prescription glasses, but I do have a slight far sight discrepancy.

I have talked to all 3 manufacturers and they all seem to be very helpful. That is a good sign that their customer service is probably good.

Question #1 Does anyone have a slight far sight discrepancy and you don't wear glasses everyday, but do for trap shooting. Does it improve your shooting?

Question #2 If you wear prescription glasses for shooting have you tried both inserts and ground lenses and have you had any performance issues with either.

Question #3 I am leaning toward Pilla or Decot. Has anyone switched to Pilla from Decot and noticed a big difference (I know this has been beat to death).

Maybe this should have been 3 separate posts, but we will see how this works. All opinions greatly appreciated.

 

Pilla for me went from ranger clearer for me.easier to change lens.

 

I use Pilla X6 with the prescription insert. I started with X7s, but realized they were too narrow, so I sold and replaced with X6.

I would think ground lenses would be better, but need 2-3 lenses makes it cost prohibitive I think.

Try before you buy for sure!

Reference Question 1, that is exactly me. Glasses are essential for clays, but not for most activities.

Did you switch from Ranger ground prescription to Pilla inserts or were they the non prescription lens?

Do you ever get a glare or fogging with the Pilla inserts?

 

I tend to get a little bent myself .... " if I start cussing, fuming, and hyper-ventilating after missing a bird." I need remember to follow Phil Kiners breathing technique when I shoot crappy.
I talked to a few guys at the club today and it was suggested that I try soft contacts when shooting. I am going to email my optician and see if this is an option. If it works it would be more cost effective.

 

I have Decot and like them. I'm still using the frames I bought in 1992. I've been through about 5 or 6 sets of lenses as my prescription changed. The last set of lenses I bought from a dealer that let me look through probably 20 different colors to get the ones that suited my eyes best. Colors can make a huge difference. Just my experience.

 

I like Randolph Ranger Classic shooting glasses. I’ve had mine since 1990, frames were replaced under lifetime warranty around 2012 ( excellent quick turnaround), the lense clip weld broke. I’m kind of clumsy and scratch lenses a lot and the Ranger replacement lens is $45 a set compared to Pilla $275 and up. Pilla might have a slight edge on some of their lens but for me the Ranger Classic is good enough. If they are good enough for Kim Roade they are good enough for me. Mike

 

I have Decot...they have always given great service..quality frames and lenses. Haven't used any other brand to compare to...
