He has his trapgun/sporting clays gun and shoots like he always has, no cares about the ATA because they did not care for him other than take his money by adding targets from 500 to 3,000 to 1,000 in current target year, took away his family time, and to what extent? He spent the time with his family like a good family man should. The greed of the ATA overrcame itself, The Greed of the ATA could not overcome the average family shooter. He the average Joe knew where he needed to spend his time, and the narrow targets, short target distance could not entice him/her to sacrifice family time. Greed by the ATA, EC, and BOD destroyed what was a great sport, now that family man and his children are shooting Sporting Clays and enjoying them selves, I see them at the Sporting Clay Courses and those shoots are getting bigger each year, why because they throw a competitive target. I love to see those family shooters going to the Sporting Clay Courses, and Buddy shoots. Shotgun Shooting is growing in Southern Ohio. I am glad to be a part of it. Maybe some day the ATA will wake up and see what XX did to a fine Sport. Sincerely Yours In Sport Gary Bryant Dr.longshot
You just decribed a man that has life's priorities properly sorted. Wife and I shoot for fun. If we weren't having fun we wouldn't be shooting. We don't plan to renew our ATA membership but will continue shooting in the local leagues because it's fun.
NordCelt good on you. It is meant to be a good time with friends and family. Some want to do nothing but whine and complain. Keep shooting , trap , sheet, sporting it is all fun with a shotgun.
Trap is getting to be a rich mans sport... the travel, need to get X# targets in, time off work/away from family. I got into trap to spend time with family and until this year i was spending more time away than home... cost me relationships, cost me family time, and it cost me friends. This year my sister decided to shoot with me and brother, i started having fun again. I still love trap but sporting clays and skeet are expanding in my family circle, my cousins and friends are pulling me into the more social sports where busting on each other are expected and misses are laughed off easy. We have become our own worse enemy... overly serious, bent on winning and perfection. We lost our way... trap is supposed to be relaxing and fun, a miss is a miss, not miss and your out. I LIKE HARDER TARGETS, I LIKE MORE ANGLES AND SPEED... THERE MORE FUN, in sporting clays you can laugh and joke about misses. Families can shoot together and not worry about throwing off other squads.... kids can be kids.
This is very true more and more shooters that were originally trap shooters are turning to Sporting Clays. There still are dedicated Trap shooters who will never give up the sport but Trapshooting will never in my opinion regain/be what it was 20 or 30 years ago but then again I donot think that Registered Trapshooting will die completely.
I have had many shooters and readers say this is the POST OF THE YEAR TRUTHFUL AND DIRECT TO THE POINT. Gary Bryant Dr.longshot
