I used to go on the South side of Chicago, pretty much like a Safari late at night but they shoot back ... (wink, wink) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I think the site "African Hunting" would be a good place to ask. I've inquired about different subjects and sold a few items there and the members are very helpful. A lot of them have actually been on multiple trips to the Dark Continent and could probably direct you to the appropriate outfitter or at least tell you which ones to avoid.
AH, leave the Lions alone. Stay in the good old USA and stay safe. Lots of good hunting state side & help our economy. But then different strokes for different folks. A friend of mine did go to Africa 4 years ago but he hunted several deer sized animals, not Lions. Said it was great and wished he could do (afford) it again.
Would go to a Safari Club International Convention all the guides and Outfitters go to these conventions one of the big ones is in Reno or Las Vegas in January great place to get all the info you need. Check out there trip reports. Sgoose
When I was a member of SCI you could bid on hunts at their conventions. You could really get some great hunts. In fact some were cheaper then American big game western hunts. I once had a vendors spot at the Las Vegas gig
Started looking at photo's of the lion kills and decided that animal is to majestic the shoot. I'll just stick with dove and quail
A younger male with little mane will cost you 40k plus. A big male 50k plus and female is 20-25k. I have a buddy who has been. His father took a younger male and he took a female. I will snap a pic for you next time im in there gun shop. They have lots of trophies mounted in there shop. Also don't take a real expensive rifle cause its 50-50 if you will get it back. This is direct from them and they have been many times. The lions were there last trip as the father is getting bad health
Probably safer too. Never heard of anyone getting attacked and bitten by a wounded dove or quail. Pigeons are another story. More than once I've had a wounded one make the fence and out. THAT is a bite in the butt for sure.
Sort of like driving through East St. Louis - 30 years ago before they bulldozed the whole city down? LOL At the time I thought that (bulldozing) was the best possible solution but all it did was just chase the rats to Ferguson. Not LOL
Good for you Ljutic. I lived in East Africa several years and understand the attraction. I'm not a hunter, but if I were I would go after an old Cape Buffalo bull. They get cut out of the herd when they get old, and then usually eventually fall prey to lions. Shooting them is more humane, they make a magnificent trophy, the villagers are happy with the meat, and you will have great memories of your safari. Plus, you will have done a bit of good in the process.
If you want to get a feel for big game hunting from a PH (professional hunter's) perspective, read '' Death in the long grass'' by Peter Capstick. I've read all his books on Big Game hunting.
Well, Poindexter, I am not a snowflake and am an avid hunter. and still don't understand why you would want to kill a lion unless it is to try to make yourself look tough. Good luck with that.
Well Noie, I'll kill anything in Africa I want to and just keep your opinions to yourself. Decided against the Lion since the negro poachers are slaughtering them and selling the bones to China. It also has nothing to do with looking tough. It's a hunt of a lifetime. I spoke with the outfitter and I know about the Cape. Get a life and take care of your own business, that's more than you can handle anyway

Instead of lions nipping and biting at you we have the medical profession and nursing home profession that keeps you alive long enough so they can pass you around till they all have taken a bite out of you till they have bleed you dry. Seems to me the more humane thing to do would be to just pass out cyanide tablets, and get it over quickly. LOL
