Sorry but I still don't see what's so special; all 391 Beretta factory extended Optima chokes say the same thing. At least mine do. Very curious as to what makes this barrel bore/chokes different than any other Optima choked barrel. Not trying to be a d**k but please educate me as you have me stumped. Thanks and good shooting, Rey
All 7 of my tubes say IM-Full etc & SP no PB and does not say HP or PB I have 9 pages from Beretta choke tube web site on all their tubes, my tube description is for STEEL SHOT & the Bbl is heavier, thicker wall and says .884 diameter of Bbl. GB.....................DLS
My Bbl and tubes are made for extreme use of steel shot, Bbl is thicker/heavier and tubes have longer straight thru, that is why my choke tubes are a total 3.5 inches and are SP Tubes. GB...........................................DLS
you need go to the Beretta Choke tube pages and read, better yet download all 9 pages and it explains the SP Chokes for Steel Shot, Why am I the one that Re-searches his equipment and specifications. It's there in plain reading. GB................................DLS
My Optima barrels meet the same specs and have the same chokes from the factory. Nothing miraculous or different than any other Optima barrel mass produced by Beretta. That's why your claims have had me stumped. "Extreme use of steel shot" and "longer straight thru" WTF is that? I've got my boots on but still swimming in it so far. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly man up and say so. Please post pics of your claims to put us to rest. Thanks and good shooting, Rey
Gary post the pictures of the barrels & the chokes ,,Beretta pages don't show us what u have for sale--pictures please
Beretta discontinued my 391Urika OPTIMA SP Choke tubes my tubes were bored to match the Back bore by Moneymaker They backbored all of their olympic ribbed guns and the cost on your Bbl was $1,000, I am not new to this, I have a unique Moneymaker Olympic Rib that will shoot 120% high adj. 70/30 to 120% I have pics of Bbl & Tube on my phone i can send you, you do not have a 391 Urika 30" inch Bbl, out right price is what i Quoted and will buy one from Wally $400+ factory parts are not available, discontinued.Send me $1275 UPS Moneyorder it's yours. It's like new, look at pics on your phone. GB..........................................DLS
First person that sends me money gets it. I know what I got and price is right. Dr.longshot.............................GB
Gary is your 391 a Urika Gold? If so those HP tubes came with it, they were used in the UGB 25 also, if my research is correct. I think it’s just another type of Choke tube Beretta used for awhile.
I just got a 391 Optima 28" field grade with steel rated chokes, the info I listed previously was from one of those chokes
Ok guys to clear the air some there were no 391Berettas ever offered with the OPTIMA HP CHOKE tubes the early production 391 came with the Beretta MOBILE CHOKE. The OPTIMA CHOKE SYSTEM was introduced with the 391 TECNYS AND THE URIKA 2 series 391 COMPETITION MODELS. The OPTIMA PLUS CHOKES came with the field versions of the 391 and are not interchangeable with MOBILE or OPTIMA or OPTIMA HP CHOKE system. The OPTIMA HP CHOKES were first introduced in the A 400 Beretta never in the 391.The OPTIMA and the OPTIMA HP CHOKES are not interchandeable. All BERETTA FACTORY screw CHOKES that are stamped with SP designates their ability to handle STEEL SHOT.
The OPTIMA Plus barrels and CHOKES are Barrels manufactured for the later model 391 Field (hunting) guns and are STEEL PROOFED. The SP engraved on the CHOKE stands for STEEL PROOFED hope this helps
Gary if your barrel has been back bored by Money Maker It is no longer STEEL SHOT PROOFED by BERETTA the integrity of the barrel has modified and the CHROME PLATING of the bore has been removed in the BACK BORING process.
ics View attachment 40337 View attachment 40337 View attachment 40338 Cheetah my Beretta 391 has the 4th GENERATION SP Choke tubes I have researched this very extensively, they are Marked with Constriction w/colored Bands for easy selection by the Competetive Shooter for Quick Identification. Beretta and Briley do not have any of choke tubes like mine,The 7 Choke tubes are all 3.5 Overall length, Threads in the BO Bbl are extended .694 towards the Reciever, these tubes are larger in diameter, and the Bbls measure .844-.900, I checked mine with a Micrometer and it matches Beretta Specifications on the 2018 specs, I have all 9 pages of their choke specs printed out. My gun is also a Complete Soft Touch Composite Stock & Forearm assembled by Soft Touch at their Plant, Briley said they have never seen the Beretta 3.5 Inch Overall Choke tubes, Briley and Beretta and Brownells, do not show my tubes in their catalogs, These Tubes were originally Developed for the Heavy Steel and Alloy Shot. Bbl and tubes were made thicker and longer Tubes for the Straight Thru to adapt the Steel and Alloy Shot. I am Dr. Longshot and I know my Gun and Bbl statistics, I want the best I can get. That is why I am the Grudge Match Champion. I talked with the Beretta Design Engineers several times over the last few weeks. GB........................................DLS 10:15 PM 3-9-2021
Show a pic of the tubes with the colored bands. They came in Urika II golds, Teknys and I believe UGB 25s. I don’t think the tubes or barrel is as Special as you want it to be.
Hi Gary the chokes you have are the OPTIMA COMPETITION CHOKES they were manufactured for the use in 391 BERETTA TRAP - SPORTING and SKEET COMPETITION shotguns with the OB BARRELS for competition.I only have 48 of these chokes in my inventory and they all measure 3&1/2”in overall length. The larger outside diameter barrels were designed to ad forward weight to the 391. There were a group of us on the BERETTA SHOOTING TEAM when the new 1st model 391s became a reality and they were all .722-.723 nominal bore with the BERETTA MOBILE CHOKE system and were a very light weight barrel. We wanted a more balanced heavier COMPETITION gun so BERETTA introduced the heavier OB barrel having a nominal bore of .733 with extended forcing cone and offered this barrel configuration with either OB FLUSH CHOKES or the 3&1/2” EXTENDED OPTIMA CHOKES with the COLOR BANDS on them for easier identification and replacement I have in my inventory two complete sets of the flush OPTIMA CHOKES. I happen to know who you are and what a great competitor and resume you posses I also hold numerous titles in STATE and NATIONAL level competition in the SPORTING CLAYS WORLD been there done that beginning in 1984 and still having fun!!!
These tubes are the 4th Generation design, SP, Tubes Bbl is heavier and Larger in Diameter, the SP Choke Tubes are Thicker and longer for shooting Heavier Steel & Alloy shot, Choke tube threads are ..694 longer. GB.......................DLS
Hi Rey the things that make this barrel different from any other OPTIMA BORE 391 Beretta Competition barrel are that MONEYMAKER inhanced the barrel in question by enlarging the bore diameter also taking the Beretta factory OPTIMA COMPETITION EXTENDED CHOKES and reaming the CHOKES to match the new over bored barrel and adding their ADJUSTABLE RIB. The only thing that is different about the CHOKES Gary has is that they have been BORE MATCHED to the barrel and cannot be readily purchased as a factory replacement. Hope this helps !!!!!! P.S. Hope all is well in your world stay safe my Friend !!! Harold
635 G I understand your thoughts and the barrel Gary has for sale is a fair deal for someone looking for an enhanced adjustable ribbed 391 barrel I have a few MONEYMAKER barrels and I just wish they were still available !!
I am currently shooting a DeVault 391, was looking for another barrel if something out of left field happens
Harold, thank you for the detailed explanation. I have barrels from Angleport (.735), Seminole (.735), Briley (.733) and Moneymaker but they are all for 390s. The only one of these not backbored is the Moneymaker one (.723). I was considering this one for a 391 and under the impression Moneymaker did not backbore the Optima barrels since they were already backbored to (.733) from the factory. You learn something new every day. Gary, please post the new bore diameter and the various choke constrictions for further consideration. Do you have the original paperwork from Moneymaker that shows the work done to the rib/bore and chokes? Thanks and good shooting, Rey
Hi Rey some of the OPTIMA Barrels have been back bored to .740 with great results but we all know there really isn't any thing wrong with the factory BORE diameter which is really my choice and I prefer the .722-.723 BORE with Beretta Mobile CHOKES in a good 302 or 303 30 or 32" Beretta I have shot many top scores with them but they are my favorite of all the different models of BERETTA's I own !!!!
the blue cl choke tube measures .750 to .730 the gold ic choke tube measures .745 to .725 the red skeet choke tube measures.746 to .730 the orange LM choke tube measures .745 to .717 the green M choke tube measures .745 to .715 the black IM choke tube measures .745 to .705 the silver F choke tube measures ,745 to .695 the actual barrell bore is .752 several tubes have a long 3 inch taper in the M-IM-Full tubes the more open tubes have over 1 inch of straight through, that long 3 inch taper gives an even precision pattern. Just like my X-full on my Ceaser Guerini Xtra-Full Choke tubes.. GB....................................................DLS
Hey Gary the numbers you have posted on your CHOKE measurements on the rear of the CHOKES are all smaller than your posted BORE DIAMETER are you sure your barrel BORE is not .742 instead of .752 ? Please inform i'm just saying that the dimensions between the rear of your CHOKES and your posted BORE diameter of your barrel will not be compatible. I am not trying to be combative please recheck your BORE diameter at the muzzle end of the barrel. Best regards Harold.
Those measurements are exactly what my factory Beretta Optima extended chokes mic at. They all have a flare or jug at the entrance of the choke obviously so the wad doesn't get hung up and blow up the barrel. Your final constriction is in line with what they should measure on a standard Optima Bore. From the original .733 bore, they measure: the blue cl choke tube measures .750 to .730 - 3 thousands constriction the gold ic choke tube measures .745 to .725 - 8 thousands constriction the red skeet choke tube measures.746 to .730 - 3 thousands constriction the orange LM choke tube measures .745 to .717 - 16 thousands constriction the green M choke tube measures .745 to .715 - 18 thousands constriction the black IM choke tube measures .745 to .705 - 28 thousands constriction the silver F choke tube measures ,745 to .695 - 38 thousands constriction From your stated .752 bore, they measure: the blue cl choke tube measures .750 to .730 - 22 thousands constriction the gold ic choke tube measures .745 to .725 - 27 thousands constriction the red skeet choke tube measures.746 to .730 - 22 thousands constriction the orange LM choke tube measures .745 to .717 - 35 thousands constriction the green M choke tube measures .745 to .715 - 37 thousands constriction the black IM choke tube measures .745 to .705 - 47 thousands constriction the silver F choke tube measures ,745 to .695 - 57 thousands constriction As cheetah stated above, your measurements don't sound right. Your barrel will most likely blow up on the first shot if your measurements are all correct. I'd re-check everything to make sure it is safe. You can also verify the measurements and dimensions with the documentation Moneymaker provides with the barrel/work order. Good luck and good shooting, Rey
