Hey guys, So i just got my first non-fixed choke shotgun and trying to decide what to use for the sport. I have M, LM, 2-IC, S, and C that came with it. I’m a beginner and for trap I was thinking IC for the bottom barrel and M for the top barrel if I was to do doubles. Not sure if its worth getting a LF or F for the second barrel or not. For Skeet would the choice be Skeet and Cylinder be the best choices or try to pick up a second skeet tube to shoot that in both barrels. Thanks in advance for helping a new guy Ted
I know its probably a lot of personal preference in the question I posed....I’m more looking for what is the recommended starting point for someone just getting into the sport before they learn what works best for them
You will get many opinions, and there is no one correct answer. My only trap guns are fixed full chokes. .....I believe full chokes force you to be more accurate in your pointing. Most of the guys I shoot with use Modified or Improved Modified for 16yd singles.
Many years ago a wise man once said that when shooting trap use any choke you want as long as it's full.
Theodore, depends also on your reaction time to get to your targets. Give it a shot with what you got as you can always add a choke or 2 to your current selection. Good shooting, Rey
Full chokes don't force you to be accurate, they just make you pay more often when you are not. To the OP: as a novice shooter, I'd go with Mod for the first shot in doubles, Full for the second shot. Mod or Imp Mod for singles, Full for yardage beyond 19 yards.
