It is truly a shame that someone spends all that money to keep shooters on a more level playing field, and this happens.

I am hoping there can be a reasonable solution to this problem.

 

The reason?

It's not nice to fool Mother Nature?

 

Looks to me to be a fabric problem rather than a shot problem.
I often wondered how it would hold up with that West wind roaring down those open fields.

Wpt does any club out your way have a shot screen? Maybe Cardinal rushed in, but I thought they did a little research first but with all the problems the screen is having maybe they didn't.

 

I'm not sure who has them for sure ... Terry Bilbey's club in California (Redlands Shooting Park) I was told has them but have not heard of any major problems or its not being advertised any way ... I googled Redland Shooting Park and their web site shows they do have shot curtains and they appear to be in good shape (depending on how old the Photos are ) , have not heard anything about any problems over there .... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

I don't thing it was ever a matter of keeping the shooters on a level playing field. It is a lot more about Jack putting the money from the shot recovery in his accounts.
I would do the same if I was the owner!

 

I think with the strong winds and ice build up that can happen in our winters you might need a curtain that could be lowered for the winter months.

 

I would think that any material, over time and subjected to the elements, will have issues. Nothing lasts forever.

 

Haul in the dirt make a big mound, cover with tarps to collect the shot.

 

Dirts cheap build a dirt wall.

 

I'm not an engineer. Maybe we have one as a member.

I do know that the higher you go, the wider it has to be at the base to support it. Think, dam.

How many THOUSANDS OF TONS of dirt would it take to make a "mound" that long and that high?
AND, where in the heck are you going to find that much close enough to be able to do it "cheap"?

 

What is the MIL. Thickness of the Canvas, Diameter of the C-clips+lgth.

What if they put another pole midway between each pair of poles, they probably wouldn't even have to be attached to the shot screen. Just there as a support for when the wind picks up. Maybe set back a few feet so the screen doesn't rub constantly on the pole in normal wind conditions.

 

They need to place another lower net in back of the high one. This will deflect the wind up over the existing net. Roger C.

 

It looks to me like the screens are still more or less intact and the bindings are failing.

 

The one thing you know when you get there this spring it will be looking good

 

Why do they have them? Is it just to give everyone the same background, or do they actually have a reason to keep shot from traveling past the curtain?

What appeared to be a good idea at the time is looking like a Royal PITA (head ache ) for the folks at Cardinal ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

As I posted before, the bull rings are designed to open under stress. The CC has several lift trucks on campus. The bull rings are quickly reconnected and if all works as planned they will reopen under extreme stress.

 

So the Bull rings are the fusable link made to release rather than cause more damage to the actual shot curtain material, I guess that makes better sense than having the shot curtains ripped to shreds but still connected ... Can see where seeing the curtains down would be a cause for concern if one didn't know it was part of the back up plan ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

There is: don't shoot where the holes are.

 

All you have to do is look a few miles to the South, from Circleville along the Scioto river clear to the KY border at Portsmouth, where the ancients (Adena and others) built colossal embankments, burial mounds and fortifications, one basket of dirt at a time. Of course, they didn't have to convince the EPA it was OK to build up great piles of dirt, like at the Serpent Mound, down in Pike Co, or the numerous mounds that dot the landscape at Bainbridge and Chillicothe, in Ross County. It would be just a couple of days work for Jack & his dozers.

 

I have noticed in other country's, on bunker fields you will notice large dirt piles and
They cover them the dirt with artificial grass!
