    What is a zone fee?

    Who establishes a zone fee?

Where does the zone fee money end up?

How is the zone fee amount established?

Why are zone fees different among the zones?

Are zone shoots, one shoot with satellites, or are each of the satellites a different shoot?

The Central Zone's fee - a daily fee paid by the shooters at the annual Central Zone Shoot - was imposed by the Central Zone and amounted to, as I remember something less than $2 a day.

The proceeds therefrom ended up in the checking account of the Central Zone which was the only thing the Zone owned - no bank account, no investment, no coffeemaker.

It was established a its magnitude was set by affirmative votes of the Directors of the Central Zone at a properly-called meeting and was reviewed from time to time, again at properly-called meetings.

The Central Zone fee was set without consultation with the other zones and was a low as we could manage. It may be that other zones need more or less.

Some zones, particularly ones covering a lot of area, are hub & satellite arrangements. I think the Eastern Zone may have been, in times past, held at a single site and may or may not be like that now.

    Thanks,

To me, you have created many more questions. I hope you can answer.

    1. What are the requirements for a zone to hold a properly-called meeting? I don't see that in the by-laws.
    2. You said, "Zone owned." Is the Zone a separate entity of the ATA? Like states being separate and having there own set of by-laws?
    3. Who controls and is accountable to this (zone member I suppose) owned checking account?
    4. Are there ATA minutes allowing for a Zone to have a checking account?
    5. How does one review the minutes of these properly-called Zone meetings?
    6. What is a Zone checking account used for? ADDED: Can it be different for each Zone?

So as to each Zone for the ATA Zone shoots, is it one shoot, held at several sites, or is it one set of prizes to be distributed to the highest score from several different shoots?

jdhunts, Just returned from the western zone shoot. NO zone fee for us. If you find out what the fund is for please post it for all to see. Find out who has the check book? Roger C.

Which site, though there are different amounts listed at some sites (should be the same) it appears all charged a fee, at least in the program.

    Here is Tucson:

    Here is Spokane:

I have learned the ATA has no part in the zone fee, none. I have also learned the Zones act independently of the ATA. If the zone has a checking account the ATA does not know about it and has nothing to do with it.

If each site in the Western Zone charged the correct amount, which may not be the case. It appears about $3500 dollars was given to the zone. I guess as they act independent of the ATA, the question is, is there oversight or privileges given to the members. Am I a member of a Zone Association? I have never signed up for a Zone membership? If I am a member, what are my rights of the Association?

The SW Zone collected about 1800$. Apparently for 7 trophies and possibly adding money to the ATA Added money to cover the extra given in added money? Though I would think that would be an ATA violation, maybe not.

The Southern Zone, well hard to get any numbers, as they are correcting some errors associated with point pins. I was told there was going to be a meeting by the SZ VP. I guess that did not occur.

The Kentucky Delegate, which is the SZ VP and soon to be ATA President(?), has had a bad month, but maybe that is normal, I do not know.

I know the Southern Zone Administration(?), not a noted member of the SZTA BOD, is working on it.

jhunts, It does not state any fees in the program from Tucson. But in the shooter info, it states, daily fees asta$3.00 ata $3.00 and WZ $1.50 per 100 Now on my receipt it shows fees $6.00. Targets were $33.50 per 100. In program the targets were shown to be $32.00 per 100. Total charge $39.50 per 100. They were a little more sneeky at adding the cost in down here in Tucson.

I'm with you I do not know when or by who's authority this extra charge was instituted, but it does not set well with me. The $1.50 is not going to break me, but I do not like to think I have been used. It seems that we shooters are being used as someones piggy bank, and it pisses me off. Roger C.

Tucson was my example, the WZ fee was to be $1.50 per 100. Wow..... If the sites do not charge the fee, it looks like they will be losing money, whoever they are.

The website and admin I guess costs possibly $150 per site, at least that is what the central zone will cost. That would be $1350 for 9 sites.

N1H1 - you have been asked many questions by jhunts. I suspect the questions or answers if given may put someone in poor standing of a corporation.

jhunts, In the program it states ATA zone wide trophies. Does that mean the ATA supplied them, or that they condone the zone using their name ? If the ATA supplied them, what does the zone do with the fees they charge? I would sure like if some one would step up and clarify this for the members. Roger C.

In the Tucson program, it appears the ATA trophies were the "ATA ZONE WIDE Trophies to" the Western Zone Association(?) trophies were "Western Zone Wide Trophy to" and the club trophies were "ASTA Club Trophies to"

It appears the Zone Association purchased (gave out)

Here is the link for awards.

    http://shootatazone.com/western/winners.cfm
    http://shootatazone.com/southwestern/winners.cfm

Looks like 21 WZ trophies awarded vs 8 for the SW Zone.

So it appears trophies/web management and maybe that's all. Though an accounting should be made, I would think. Sounds like there is no oversight from the ATA to each zone, monetarily.

I just always thought it was a ATA shoot, not a Zone Association shoot following ATA rules. Never gave it much thought, as I assumed money went through the ATA.

    upload_2017-7-17_17-55-48.png

    Yes they were.

ADDED: If anyone shot in Spokane, it would be interesting to know what there Zone fee was. The program lists $1.50/day.

    Brad,

I wouldn't count on hearing from PipeLayer anytime soon on this issue. It appears he is busy trying to explain to Dr. Parrott and rest of the ATA Zone he represents, exactly why a points pin is a better trophy than a $100 check. I guess I'm old school as I would rather have the $100 check!

SWZ - Approximately $1800 @ $1.50/day zone fee for 5 sites and 8 SWZ Trophies. Possibly a little added money as what is offered exceeds the ATA's $3000 gift for added money.

WZ - Approximately $3500 @ $1.50/100 target zone fee for 9 sites and 21 WZ Trophies. Maybe a little less if Spokane's WZ fee was $1.50/day as listed in the program.

SZ - Approximately $3500 (more if fee charges were also on Thursdays events) @ $2/event zone fee for 3 sites and 0 (zero) SZ Trophies. There were 83 site trophies provided by the Silver Dollar. The Southern Zone Program notes ATA Added Money is $2955, which is odd as the ATA provides $3000 dollars. I added up the added money awards offered, and it appears to be $3255. Not sure where the extra $255 comes from, it seems not to be noted.

Elsewhere I was also asking questions, one of which was?

jhunts: " Is there Zone by-laws and/or articles of incorporation ?"

To which the answer was, No, though it was a guess, from a usually informed(?) poster.

Then I noticed this on the Southern Zone program as part of a message from Terry Dean.

"I have appointed the SZTA Delegates... ...per the SZTA By-Laws,"...

Of course the SZTA is the Southern Zone Trapshooting Association.

Where are the by-laws? How many for a quorum? Different by-laws for each zone?

What could go wrong with Pipe Liar in charge?

Timothy A Hall is listed as the Secretary in the SZ program.

I do not find the SZTA listed with the Alabama Secretary of State.

The General Business Address is the same as the SZTA located on the Guidestar website.
