What shotgun powder meters best

Just looking for info on what powders measure best running in a mec reloader .Right now I am using 17.5 gr Red Dot and it seems to vary a bit not bad but was wondering if there is a better choice.

 

Winchester Ball Powder, but it sifts out of the charge bar onto the loading table as it is a fine powder

 

Yep.don`t like Ball Powder. Promo and Green Dot work great in my MEC 9000G.

I have loaded with 700x for 30 years and had no problems until now. I just bought 2- 8# about a month ago, I don't know what happened
or I got bad batch, but It doesn't meter shell for shell very well. Rick

 

I have heard that about 700-X from others recently, as long as I operate my loader the same shell after shell my drops are consistant, but I keep my bottles full never lower than 1/2 full, I load Promo-800-X-and of course Longshot

I have a bunch of 800X. Any good loads with AA hulls W209 primers?

 

800x is the most inconsistent metering powder I have ever tried. As a general rule, the finer grained powder will be more consistent.

 

Red Dot in my Spolar with very consistent drops.

Worn washers and a good baffle make a big difference on the mecs. I liked the old Winchester ball powders, but it was messy. American Select is my powder of choice. Green dot second. There are as many answers as avatars on this site.

 

I like the ball powders but check the washer / bushings between the bottle and charge bar. I always found it easier to measure the bulkier powders.

 

Check bushings, washers, charge bars.

 

PB meters the best......but like most things that are good..its over.

I love PB for my 3/4 oz. 20 ga. loads. I'm really bummed they quit making it and I only have about a pound left...........Joe

My wife likes it in her AA's. #2 son shoots it in his 20 GA. They'll have to switch to Green Dot (like me) one day!!

 

PB. Just got an 8 & 5 pounder. Loaded 700 to shoot this week.

PB...Ihave 8lbs ...will prob go to green dot also. Rumor has it "they" say may be a limited run of PB..code word for how much will they pay for it

 

There are a couple options out there for replacement powders on the 3/4 oz. 20 gauge loads, but I have been told not to use green dot if you are shooting through tubes due to the pressures being too high, one of the guys that I shoot with just had to replace one of his briley tubes due to split chamber. He was shooting factory ammo at the time of the split, but had loaded and shot quite a bit of green dot prior to that. The winchester super handicap is great with low pressures, but it does pack a little more of a punch, it does meter well and burn relatively clean. I hope they do make another run of PB, that is definitely my favorite powder.......................Joe

 

Surpise, how come nobody mentioned "Clays" I try and keep over 1/2 a bottle full all the time also, but see no
change if I get down less than that. I tend to weigh every 5th shell or so....
