So, as I continue my quest to get better, I've been doing lots of things I shouldn't do. But I can't seem to help myself when it comes to buying guns. With that said, the quick excuse I have is … I just like guns, period. Before I really got into shooting trap this past winter, I collected all kind of guns, some to shoot, some to sit in the vault. There are just so many different revolvers, pistols, rifles, AR's, hunting rifles, collectible guns etc... So with trap guns, so many different brands, types, options... I've purchased way too many in the last 4-5 months, but my reasoning is to try different guns, even though I know, I'm supposed to master one before trying another. If you read any of my posts, you know what and how many I've tried. I think I have just settled on one that may stay around for a while.... a KX-5 with a release trigger. I 1st picked up one about 3 weeks ago with a pull trigger, but while looking for it, had a line on a release trigger KX-5 at a dyno mite price, I ended up having to buy the release trigger also. So I've been shooting the pull trigger the last 3 weeks or so with mixed results, good days, bad days, good rounds, bad rounds...

Well, after shooting several rounds yesterday with the pull trigger, I shot a 23 and a 20-21, figured I was back in the right direction.. Last night I worked on both guns, setting up the butt stocks , feeling really good about shooting this morning at a little inter club meet... well, I sucked, shot a 19, then really bombed out at the end of my second round with a 15!! Meet was over, had the release trigger KX5 with me, figured what the heck, can't do any worse, so I shot a round with it.... 24!! Smoked every target I hit.. after the 1st stand.. all I could think was .. "this is cheating" … so after the round, I walked around thinking that had to be beginners luck with a new gun, wouldn't be the 1st time.. surly if I shoot another round, I'll shoot an 18 or 19 …. NOPE! shot another 24... can't wait to go out again..

When I look back at my misses before with the pull trigger, I seemed to do at least 2,3,4 double pulls on the trigger, like by the time I went to pull the trigger, I was over, under or behind the bird and tried to stop the trigger pull, but then pulled it and was off the bird.... seems like with the release trigger, as soon as I'm on the bird, the slightest 'thought" of releasing the trigger and it fires.. What I-I'm saying, eyes see the target, gun goes bang, the bird explodes... any thoughts guys...

If you failed at pulling the trigger several times on a target you were way overdue for a release trigger. Enjoy the ride-it'll be worth it. Many of us feel your pain.

Thanks Oleo.... That's been my kryptonite... happens 2-5 times a round, way too often...

I relish shooting my release guns. I transitioned a little over a year ago, am a happy camper. Firing at the target without jerk, flinch, or conscious thought is a welcome thing.

I'm loving it, same as you... no more flinch. But still need to work on my game..
