In the most recent Trap and Field magazine our ATA President Terry Dean claims points and averages are the big draw instead of money. Since so few shooters even qualify for All-American teams why would anyone be interested in points? I suppose this must be part of the "fantastic direction" our leaders propose we're heading. It seems to me that a mediocre shooter with time off and the financial ability to pursue points can often qualify for an All-American category team. I fail to follow his logic. Anyone agree?

    Big draw for what?
Big draw for trapshooting as a sport? ...no.
Big draw for all trapshooters? ....no.
Big draw for some trapshooters? ...undoubtedly.
Big draw for local registered events? ....no.
Big draw for satellites and state shoots? ....maybe.
Big draw for the Grands? ....probably.

I'll be facetious here, so don't get your panties in a bunch guys.

NOW, that being said, President Dean is in fact the organization's President, So coming from his mouth is only TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTH, Agree ?

After all, the esteemed leaders wouldn't do anything to sway us in any other direction other than FANTASTIC, would they ???

(Pull LLC vs 2012 Pull LLC comes to mind) What a FANTAAAAASTIC purchase that was !

C'mon now, I had a good Sunday morning laugh from oleolliedawg's post, how about you ?

By the way, just how many ALL-American "Category" teams are there nowadays anyway ?

    I lost count.

Years ago on this forum ATA President Wagner was quoted on another thread saying the same thing.

This quote from ATA President Wagner to OSTA President Cogan:

Jeff Wagner, then President of the ATA, tell me that the reason most shooters enter registered events is to accumulate All American points for recognition on an ATA All American Team .

Take a look at the averages of many of the all American team members. They may surprise you. The all American team has morphed into a joke. There are about 225 people on them total. The old time team had 5 on first team a 5 on second team. No AA points involved. Roger C.

Thanks Rog, I guess IF I were still shooting registered I just may have stood a chance.

Personally, I think they are going to say anything to make the masses feel good, when I started in 1975 the money was the draw which was evidenced by the amount of shooters who would show up and shoot ... That was a different generation of shooters (people) and their values were a lot different than most people today because today they get rewarded for showing up with some sort of trinket to satisfy them ... I used to watch the live bird shooters and was in awe many times at the amount of money being shuffled around ... The temptation was there, but I knew there was no way I could afford it, so I limited myself to watching which is some strange way was still exciting ... Hell, shooting at the grand was practice for going over and shooting for the money in Tipp City later that evening ... Those were the days .... WPT ... (YAC) ...

He fits right in with the rest of the swamp, when he ran for re election and it ended up in a tie he decided that because he was, he still is the Delegate at the time ... The ATA in all its glory stepped back and said it was a state thing not the associations problem so they let it slide ... The ATA being the Governing body by all means should of stepped in and manged an other vote until there was a decided winner for real ... The respect he lost with those actions put him right up there with the rest of the EC and many on the BOD, he will never get it back but he will get a new gun, maybe it will be tarnished also ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
