Did anyone ever sit back and think about the millions of $$$$

Boy, this Covid-19 thing, and hunkering down, has sure given me time to think about different things.

Today I was looking at all the different pictures posted at the different shoots at places around the country, and one place stuck out.

Looking at the Cardinal Center shoots, I got to thinking about how many millions of dollars worth of guns are out on those 50 fields when they are full at any given time.

I gave each field 5 shooters with an (could be a low) average of $4,000.00 per gun value.

    OK, 5 shooters, 50 fields, 250 shooters X $4,000.00

At any time the fields are full we are watching at least $1,000,000.00 on the line folks.

Now, how is that for a bored guy's thinking today ? LOL

Registered trap has never been a poor mans sport. Shooting meat shoots and annies, calcuttas is more popular than registered. AND CHEAPER Roger C.

Its not a poor mans' sport, ever think who needs the ATA ? What do they do for the individual shooter who is just that-an individual. If you're not a top dog who is really a professional making a living from shooting in a supposedly "AMATEUR" sport--bring back the pro/factory classes

In Florida you have to be a complete idiot to register in Sr.Vet @ a big shoot @ the Silver $

IMHO the ATA is designed for those chasing All American points and nothing more

And the aspect of carry-overs- for championships for individual events is BS--every day is a new day--you're not the same person you were as the previous day--

    Just my Sun morning vent.

AA points were OK for the ATA., was a waste for JOE AVERAGE SHOOTER. WE NOW HAVE ABOUT 175 PEOPLE ON THE ALL AMERICAN TEAMS. IN THE OLD DAYS THERE WERE ABOUT 10.
HOW MANY OF YOU SHOOTERS THINK THE SPORT IS HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION? ROGER C.

I go to a local sporting clays club, yes the one with the lousy trap/skeet field 4-5 days a week , just to drill--part of my deal is I shoot for free for life--most of the time I'm the only one shooting, Fl heat doesn't help;however--the sporting clay fields are packed==so are the five stand & crazy quail--trap doesn't seem to attract average shooters--maybe the real problems is trap is a game of perfection

Maybe if the game change to the Australian version called DTl it would help--break the bird first shot--3 pts, break the bird second shot 2 pts- total miss zero--perfect game 300 points

Figure on $ 2.00 a shot. Covers the Gun & all.

$2.00 a shot covers the first year of gun ownership, after that down to a $1.00 a shot but if you have to spend nights in a hotel and eat three meals out/day $4.00/ shot

I think the same but its when I see a poorly placed gun rack loaded to the max, inside the club house with a bunch people being clumsy standing around it bull shitting with people trying to squeeze past to get to the counter or the restrooms. Its just begging to be knocked over. Ive never seen it happen but im sure it has somewhere.

Did see an expensive gun fall off of a tail gate and bounce along a gravel drive way--it hurt

I have always been amazed with today's ATA shooters that own $15,000. single bbls, shoot reloads that I wouldn't use on blackbirds, stay in a ,million dollar motor home pulling a $20,000. golf cart, turn down handicap reductions, and then put that gun in the type of rack Dustin talks about. That is a registered trap shooter today by and large.

Soo True !!!! Had a shooting bud who passed away-had a Silver Seitz and a K-80 live bird gun--his reloads were horrendous, he blew up an Alfermann--

Brad, You forgot about the motor home shooters whining about $5.00 A NIGHT TO PARK AT THE CLUB. WITH 50 AMP SERVICE. Reloading reclaimed shot that most likely has dirt in it. Roger C.

Was coming back to Columbus from Cardinal a while back and pulled into the Kroger gas station in Sunbury to fill up and parked at the pump next to me was a late model Prevost that I'd seen on the grounds the day before. I struck up a short conversation about the shoot but the guy mostly bitched about the price of diesel at the truck stops up there. He'd driven that rig 10 miles out of his way to save 12 cents a gallon on fuel. With his 100 gallon fuel tank the most he could've saved was 12 bucks. Now that right there is a trap shooter.

When looking at all the pictures Family Guy has posted from the Cardinal Classic I've yet to see an 1100 or Model 12. Most of those guns I see I have no idea who made them or what they cost, just that they all look alike. I haven't shot a target since 2011 and I can't believe the guns.

I will make a prediction though that if the ATA follows through with there target speed increase those heavy un singles will become expensive mill stones. Live bird shooters have always shot lighter faster guns. Look at the shoot off for the Cardinal Classic singles, after speeding up the targets as a group the 3 left in the shoot off missed 3 targets after 200's in the program and 100 straight in the shoot off.

It looks to me like even the EC is figuring out speed kills.

I'm preparing. Broke out my old pre-64 Model 12, installed a PFS stock with custom wood grip and waiting out those faster targets. I doubt I'll be around when it happens.

The guns and Motor homes are a major investment but raise the price of targets $1 to cover price increases and you would think you asked for their last meal ... I know some good shooters who actually quit shooting because of a $1 increase some years ago, they were still bitching about it when they lowered them into the ground ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Roger you hit the nail on the head - The ATA adding fee on fees are killing our sport - Our poor little Wisconsin club in Muscoda that just burned down could have added a fee to their State team shoot to cover a building, Like the ATA did for a Pole building - But had learned their lesson when they went from a WTA registered team shot with ten teams showing up to a no Registered team shot with up to 93 teams - And yes Brad, if you show up, you will see the farm boys with their 1100's - 870's - Model 12's - And there will be 100 straight shoot offs-

It's a wealthy (upper-middle class, 50+ years) man's HOBBY. The high-end gun/RV is part of the HOBBY. However, one has to show some level of modesty concerning the cost of shells, among the "less than's" hanging around the local club. ERGO; the reloads, and of course made on a Hydraulic Spolar, Electric PW, or Dillon. Travel around and hit a few big shoot's once in a while and show other shooters you have the loot to spend, while seldom winning anything. I don't think people like that, and I was one of them until I sold my "Big Ass" RV and hit the 70+ mark look at Trapshooting as a sport. However, everyone likes to be a big fish in a little pond occasionally;););););)....
