It will be interesting to see how many shooters show up at the Southern Grand. When I've gone in the past there have been in excess of 600 shooters, as I recall. I wonder if the Coronavirus has kept the numbers down? A lot of state shoots are upcoming, there may be a marked decline in attendance if the virus continues.

i do believe the word ''may'' be a decline, will turn out ''will'' be a decline.
Just found out that our Ohio Governor, just closed all K-12 schools for at least 3 weeks.

I live in The Villages, all entertainment in the town squares, all movie theaters and parades have been cancelled--I would not be surprised that the S.Grand and state shoot are cut short & or cancelled

Knowing the demographics of the average shooter--it might be smart move

ATA, may have just shot them self's in the foot for promoting these shoots under the very much obvious circumstances.
May be some bad press about this?

Thank you dawg for the words of encouragement :D

Actually, we were there 3 weeks ago with the same comps and brought back $2,400 more than we went with. We could lose all of that this trip, won't happen, and still be good.

At least at the Hard Rock there is a chance to win money.

Don't be a schmuck--look at the casinos, who pays for them--losers--how do I know --I was an electrical contractor in NJ & built a few casinos--its a sucker bet--almost as bad as playing the options @ the Grand

I shoot targets 'cause I like to shoot targets. I shot for money when there was money to be won. There's two kinds of suckers today-those that believe they can beat the house and those who play options-unless they're at short yardage and capable of AA Singles averages-then-not much. Times have changed.

I still like to shoot targets once in a while. Annie's every week at the club with 25-30 guys on the line.
I don't have to go to FL. to just shoot targets.

Looks to me like there are 3 kinds of suckers

So working on a building makes someone an expert on gambling and casinos? OK, if you say so

If I really was a schmuck I would be telling you how to spend that money you earned working on that building

    I like my friend's story.

    He went to Vegas regularly.

I ask, how'd ya do this trip? He responded with, I thought I'd never quit kickin' their azz.

    Next trip.

I ask, how'd ya' do this trip? He responded with, I thought they'd never quit kickin' my azz.

    Final story.

    He was net minus 80K

    Stopped goin'

Most only say what they win, never what they are net loser

I love the casinos too. Went twice, blew my $100 wad and wandered around. Even saw a few fellow trapshooters blowing their wads too. Whatever floats their boats.

There ya go Dawg. Whatever floats someone's boat.

I just don't understand how someone that never goes to a casino or has gone twice can infer or imply that anyone that DOES gamble is a sucker or a schmuck, that's all.

BTW, I wouldn't call $100.00 a "wad". If I could only afford to take $100.00 I wouldn't go. You should have bought yourself a couple of flats of Fed Top Gun's. You would have been a lot further ahead.

Good LUCK in Florida shooting. Since PA has closed all the schools for 10 days you can take the son for an extended trip.

If I lost 80K I would have quit too.

Funny thing is, you can go on a LOT of trips when you take $1000.00 and are only betting $2.00 to $5.00 on each spin and hit for, say, $13,525.00.
That gives you a nice cushion.

So I've blown over $500 at more than one pigeon shoot-no biggie. If it wasn't for a few black drivers I would have been a hero every shoot. More skill than luck but old Jake always made it interesting.

    Strausstown, Pikeville, Valleyview, Hegins, Malloys
All gone now, so is the "Big Guy", Don Bailey, that provided the birds and ran Strausstown for years.

He used to back me at some of the shoots and a gambler as good as they come.
    Those WERE the days.
And with Bailey's birds luck had a lot to do with it. If you were unlucky you got a bunch of his good ones. The skill part was in being good enough to stop them, IN the ring.

I was taught by one of the best card counters in the business. He was not allowed to play blackjack in most casinos in Vegas. Funny thing is when I no longer needed the money the game lost its luster. The thrill was no longer there so I just quit gambling. Roger C.
One thing you should never forget is that casino was not built with the money that they lost.

With the crowds at those casinos, would one dare to go in with all the hipe about this virus ?

Probably a lot more close contact with people than at shoots.

With all the people including kids from all parts of the country converging in one spot with the President proclaiming this virus a national crises. Hope this shoot does not get known as the ''Petri dish shoot''.
Maybe they should have someone at the classification table taking ones temperature with a hand held temp reading gun? If your above 101...sorry, penalty 27 and shooting by yourself.

I was a 21 Dealer for a couple of years after college (UNLV) in Las Vegas. I worked atthe 4-Queens, Horseshoe, and Rivera. I can assure you all those free drinks, and hotel rooms are not free. Just about everyone was a loser. Oh! A few people won I guess, but I never saw it. Card Counters were welcome. Why, you ask? Because, 5 or 10 of the 200+ dealers on a shift are so hot they smoke and the pit boss knows who they are. He just rotates them on the card counters over and over again. They might get lucky until their recognized. But, how do you count on a shoe with 5-9 decks? Good luck.

The place actually looks a LOT cleaner than it did before. They were laying maintenance people off a few months ago and now?
After seeing more than a few new faces spraying and wiping everything I asked a supervisor how many they had added.

"Well, it sure wasn't the reason we wanted but we have put 20-30 people, depending on the shift, on each shift, to just clean everything they see."

It looked like every time someone got up from a machine a person was there with a spray bottle and paper towels.
They will probably close the Rivers, if they already haven't announced it, for a couple of weeks (See law department) just in case someone wanted to file a suit claiming they contracted the virus there.

I'm sure that shoot management at all the big shoots will do the same thing as far as hiring extra help to clean and to also install hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility.

Guess the FTA is smarter than the CDC, who say no gatherings of more than 50 persons, will the FTA ban shooters from Broward County, which is Florida's hot bed for the virus--S. Fl Shooters Club postponed their Regional Sporting Clays shoot-there are no do overs when your dead

Again postpone the FL State Shoot and all other large shoots that attract shooters from all over

Like the Zen master said "We'll See"

People might be able to get somewhere NOW but they might get stuck there for a lot longer than they planned.

Let's see what the WH has to say this afternoon about travel

My daughter works for a Company called Custom Assembly. They have 8 or 9 warehouses around the country and about 150 trucks. She called me about an hour ago an said that the Pa Gov had closed all non essential travel as of 9 tonite and she was trying to get all the trucks in Pa out and the drivers home. The only travel is to be for food and medicine. No mention of trap shooting in the release she saw. Ollie might be stuck for a bit, unless he can get home by 9:00 pm.

    Kinda

    HARRISBURG, Pa. —
"Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is taking the rare step of canceling travel for some state employees because of coronavirus.

Wolf sent a directive to leaders of all agencies under his jurisdiction, banning all international travel for official state business.

Wolf also restricted all out-of-state travel unless it is absolutely necessary and approved by the heads of the involved agency.

Additionally, the governor is postponing any large meetings, conferences, training or community events unless he approves them."

Unless Ollie works for the state, I don't know if he does or not, he is probably good.

Tut, tut, I just returned from the FL State shoot. Fantastic. No competition and the trinkets were handed out to everyone who shot. Spending a week in a motel room with a wife and kid and a van full of reloads was not the ideal way to spend a vacation. That and closing all the bars and restaurants Friday afternoon said "dawg" time to find the first flight heading North. I'm back!

Dawg, it could have been worse. You could have spent a week with the wife and kid in a van without a hotel room and no reloads.

We got back from the Hard Rock in Hollywood FL. this morning too after 5 days. Was supposed to stay one more day but the local RINO rep making a big stink about the Seminole Indians staying open, along with the decline in patrons, forced them to close.
What a shame. 5 days in suite 12501 of the Guitar overlooking the pool with 83 degrees and sunny and we had to leave.

Just in case you ever get an offer for there Ollie ask if you can get one of the suites with a balcony. They have 638 rooms in the Guitar and only 32 have balconies. I would highly recommend 12501. Right around $749.00 plus resort fees and taxes PER NIGHT. Since there is another huge shower out on the balcony you could both use one at the same time. Even has a little sliding window so you can watch one another.:D

I put a couple pictures up on another thread if you want to see the outside. I would be happy to put up pictures of the suite so you can see what you will be paying for if you go. Oh, heck, I'm just sitting here doing nothing so I'll post a few. The balcony rooms start on the 20th floor. We were on the 25th. The shower picture is the "outside" one. The inside one is bigger.

Coming home broke? Priceless you said?

NOT EVEN CLOSE. Lost about $450.00 but 5 nights would have cost over $4,100 just for the room.
    Plane ride for two? $341.00.
TOTAL for 5 nights, room, food,( 5 star restaurants for dinner) drinks, after they read our Players Club card? $23.00. It would have been zero but the hosts were all gone when we checked out this morning.

Before all the "gambling is dumb" guys chime in I can post the picture of the bill.

    Just sayin....

You haven't lived till you shot in 100+ heat index, in Fl summer really starts May 1--that when the snowbird migration is in high gear--in Fl you need lots of cooling gear, 90 degree with ugly humidity isn't fun
