WELL? How Did You Do?

Without getting into all the, 2 hole, 3 hole, fast, slow, high, low, color, or even the ever popular
7-1/2' or 8's.....

I think you guys, and gals, should let the rest of us know how you shot over the weekends. Where, how many shooters, the event, your score, and if you had a good time.

It doesn't have to be a "registered" ATA shoot. ANY kind of shoot, ANY type of shoot, Trap, Skeet, Sporting, ANY shoot. I think most shooters like to read about what we all like the most,

If I didn't have this new job that required me to work 55-60 hours a week I might be able to post something myself. Hopefully later this summer I will be able to pick the old MX8 back up and pull the trigger a few times.

Post away, no one on THIS site is going to badmouth you because you don't have thousands of ATA registered targets under your belt.

Shot leagues Wed. nite. Couldn't hit a bull in the a$$ with a shovel.

Couple of weeks ago, I shot a 49. Week before that , same bull, same shovel , week before that, shot a 48, don't have a clue, I should take up knitting I guess.

 

In all the leagues I shot over the years most didn't have any kind of pay off until the end. Even then it wasn't much but that wasn't the reason we shot them anyway. It was for a night out with the boys and to maybe practice a little for the weekend registered shoots.
It would get a little boring after a few weeks and you know what that can do for your scores.

I had the same kind of problem with keeping my concentration when I first started. Until a shooting buddy introduced me to his uncle around 1975. This gentleman was the 1960 Pennsylvania Live Bird Champion and was in his 80's when I met him.. He knew a few things about shooting after 60 years of doing it and I figured he could help me with my problem. This is the advice he gave me.

Anytime you are shooting with a group of your pals and there isn't anything on the line we all have a tendency to let up a little. The thing to do is make a bet with one of the guys you are shooting with. It doesn't matter what the bet is. It could be a cup of coffee or a beer after the shoot. Anything that will keep you concentrating on the job at hand.
Nobody likes to lose a bet, even a small one. You have to listen to the guy cackle about how he beat you and how you had to buy him a beer or a soft drink. If he wins a couple of times in a row it gets even worse. It's just human nature. It's all in fun but mostly for the winner of the bet.

It worked! From then on, every time I went to any of the league shoots I always tried to get one of my pals to make a wager. On one occasion the bet was a quarter. Yep, a quarter. I wasn't about to let this guy win, even a lousy 25 cents. I started on station 1 and he was on 4. We were both hitting them pretty good and were straight after 20 targets. I changed from 4 to 5 and what do you think he had done? I looked down to get my feet set up and the SOB had put a quarter on the pad. Just a little reminder, a little psych job. I looked up the line and he was just grinning.

He is gone now but I still laugh about that to this day. I don't even remember if we tied or who won the bet but I will always remember that shiny quarter laying there staring up at me. It was never really about the bet. It was all about making you concentrate.

Give it a try, it just might make a difference.

We shoot for skins sometimes. Just like golf.

 

O.K. but don't laugh to much. Went to a PITA shoot at a club in Canby Oregon today. This is Their first ever PITA shoot, and They hadn't shot ATA in many years. This is a club that does lots of games shooting, and been happy with that program in the past. Singles for Me has been a struggle lately, and I shot a 94. Got a 91 in handicap from the 25, which I'm happy with, as ever since I got to the 24 and 25 yard lines, the wheels have fallen off the bus. Had 2 good rounds, and 2 crappy ones. Let's just not talk about doubles as I really suck at that. It was a beautiful day, a little warm for Me in the mid 80's, but I had a great time, with the usual suspects, that attend most registered shoots in the Portland metro area. That's My story, and I'm sticking to it. Good shooting!

 

We shoot in a small church league, with a lot of new competitive shooters, so none of us are very good. So far, only 2 of us have even broken 20 of the 25. I did it again on the 18-yd, after a 19 on the 16.
Some of the others are improving, though. I'll have to bear down!

 

There ya go, you broke more targets from your "handicap yardage" of 18 yards than you did from the 16 yard line.

Keep that up and some day you too could be the Grand American Champion.

BTW, what is most important is that you don't let your wife beat you

Friday I shot the summer league in Schuylkill County at Orwigsburg and shot a 50. This is a 50 target lg. Today at Boyertowns Monthly shoot I broke anther 50 st. Then at South End in Reading I broke another 50 st. Just felt good to be out shooting. Wish all weekends were like this. Ed

 

She actually did get me by one bird one week, and another week I was the ONLY one to out shoot her! Makes me realize that I have to bear down, or I'll never hear the end of it.
This is just a fun league, so the folks at the Grand have nothing to worry about.
Now at Friendship, on the other hand...

 

I thought the shoot at Canby Ore. was a well run shoot. Nice to see the club shooting PITA and had a good turnout.
It was a little warmer than I like, but it was a lot of fun.
98 in singles, 90 in handicap, 91 in the first doubles, and a 93 in the last for the Vet win.

 

Just to let you know, Flyersarebest, my wife beat me by one bird at 16 this week, so I had to bear down at 18 to finish 2 up.
But she did outshoot 17 of the 19 guys!

 

Ajax, good shooting! It was a great time at Canby. I hate to admit being a wimp, but am pretty aclimated to 60 degree weather, and although I don't know how warm it was, I was looking for shade after events. Targets were really easy to see, and lately, My eyesight has been going downhill, so anything to enhance that is good. Good shooting to You. J. Webb.

1. Ajax, Yes BKS is My home club. So was shooting there . Pretty small shoot, at a very small club, but a lot of fun. Light rain on and off a lot, not the best conditions. Scores were down, but last chance I have to shoot until August, as I have to go to work in Alaska, and no trap fields there. Kind of a drag to just get going for the shooting season, and shooting better, (not great), and have to quit. Tough to get in the groove, If You have to stop, for 2 1/2 months, but I get most of the rest of the year off, so I can live with it. Have a good summer shooting season! P.S. Nice to talk with someone on the west coast.

 

We had two guys from Cowlitz that were coming to shoot. I've shot BKS, nice club and great people. I haven't been down for while, family things.
