Can the State of Illinois afford to keep the WSRC Open now that the SCTP is moving to the Cardinal Center?

How much revenue do they need to keep the park open?

Their sponsors(whoever they are) will prop it up for the time being. Like it or not, I would bet it's going to be here a while.

The WSRC is dead in the water, without the sponsors it would probably not open again ... The State of Illinois cannot afford to keep spending tax dollars and not get any return on their "investment" and keep adding to an already upside down budget deficit ... The amount of money generated by the facility is not enough to keep it or make it financially sound ... The number from the last grand have not been posted , more or less tells you just how pitiful the financial income or return ended up over all ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

    Bill,

Sorry you missed the news this year.

30,000 people, 15,000 in camp ground...

Millions of $$$ coming into the Sparta region.

OOOps, that was a "Miss-Speak", "New Speak", from the book 1984

Appears that the ATA are looking for "TRUE BELIEVERS" with their propaganda

In response to the question as asked, I'm not sure the SCTP generates the amount of money that could or would make the difference between the WSRC making money, breaking even or even being enough of an offset income wise to pay for it to open ... The additional expenses of the WSRC being open could be a problem even if the SCTP paid exceptionally high fees ... To operate a facility such as the WSRC costs a lot of money so it in turn has to generate a lot of money to be worth while and make it a worth while venture ... The Cardinal Center does more than enough business to offset any differential there might be, being as it is a facility that operates year round, not just a week here and there like the WSRC does ... Business 101 and elementary math can give anyone interested the answer ... The State of Illinois backed away for a good reason, that you can bet on ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

The bigger question is can the ATA still hold the Grand at that location? And at what cost to the organization? Can we get out of the mess that the game of trap shooting have found it's self pulled into? If that place closes our sport is in deep sh1t. Roger C.

    Roger,
I agree to a point but the grand can be modified and hosted at other places (clubs) if the management of those clubs would let it happen ... There may not be 3 miles of traps that never get used any way, or a HOF, but it could be done with a little imagination , even if it had to revert to being an invitational shoot which would be an extreme measure at best ... The grand does not draw much in the way of crowds or shooters be that as it may because of location or the associated problems (inconvenience) attached to it ... The entire trap line has never been used or needed at any grand ever hosted at the WSRC based of the fact they have never accumulated that many shooters to make it worth while ...
The cost to the association has not been broadcast (made public) probably due to the pathetic amount of money generated at the facility, people must of been out and about spending in the local and regional area if what Lynn (The Talking Head ) said was true about generated income of 20/30 million and or there about (give or take a few million)... The State of Illinois is in dire straights with its budget and expenditures far exceeding intake (generated income) even with the latest tax increases ... If you watch the Illinois house speaker talk you would think it was Lynn ( the Talking Head ) Gipson himself up there humping every ones leg like a dog in heat saying everything is under control and headed in a "Fantastic Direction" ...
The WSRC does not and has never generated the amount of money needed to keep it going or even break even from the States point of view and based on it adding to the State deficit on an annual basis, though the ATA has obviously made some money on the deal ... The problem is the State will probably not sit still and keep providing a facility for the ATA to make money off of ... The ATA gathered sponsors for the last grand and took on many obligations out of the norm in most lease and or rental agreements ... The WSRC costs the State money even if it just sits there taking up space , that's another problem ... If the ATA can get sponsors to pay the freight and they take up the slack the WSRC will open but its only a matter of for how long and at what cost and who is going to pay it ... Sadly, if Mr. Bill Martin bought the WSRC he might be able to break even on the grand but turning a profit is what investments are all about and the WSRC is a big time loser ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

The ATA is in bad shape because some one made a decision on personal profit, and not on the welfare of the organization. This could not have by just one or two people, there were more involved than that.I'm sure they are feeling a little heat by now. Roger C.
