Was there last week. Place looks just like it did last year, does not show any signs of age from being closed off & on for a year. Hard to guess if attendance is up or down, place is huge & everything is more spread out than Vandalia was. I am going back tomorrow & friday that will be it for me for the year. Don't believe Beretta sponsored an event again this year? I could be wrong on that but seen nothing on the program (odd)!

Up a bit from what? This is the same attendance they had before the Korean War.

I no more than post on another thread and the phone rings, a friend of mine who is in Sparta went and got the over all numbers for entry's (not verified) and he came up with (drum roll please) ...... Total number of entry's up to and including event #20 is (Tada) ... 22,869 @ $3 per for the State of Illinois for a grand (mini grand ) total of $68,607 which won't cover the electric being used ... Pathetic at best, and nothing that could or would give the State of Illinois any reason to look forward to the future ... If my calculations are right, each shooters (attendee) will have to spend $10,000 each to reach the projected $20,000,000 land fall that the news is broadcasting ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Dont blame that on the news. They dont know any better. WSIL isnt known for being smart enough to be part of a plan. They heard it and printed it.

    Bro,
Just posting what I was given (not verified) , either way its Pathetic and nothing to write home about ... I hope you did well, your a good guy and provide a much needed service for the protection of the shooters hearing ... I am not sure where my friend got the numbers from so they are not and have not been verified by me (close any way ) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Thats even worse if V-10's numbers are accurate ...

I read where the Governor was there this year....

The place can't be doing too bad.

I will venture a "Guess" this will be the ATA Home Grounds long after our shadows no longer cover the earth.

The Governor being there is meaningless in actuality, could actually be bad news, also the television camera man should of panned the crowd (well what there was of one anyway) if he was on the ball, to show the great turn out and all of the people (which there wasn't) based on actual numbers ... The State of Illinois is in financial crisis so based on a return of 30,000 entries @ $3 per that is not much of a wind fall for the State and IDNR to really get excited about ... The State separated itself from any and all financial obligation so someone is going to pick up the tab and pay the differential of the actual cost be that as it may ... The Governor can now go back to the Illinois House and give them the good news so they can vote to keep it open or bull doze it ... The democrats as well as Republicans in the State of Illinois are not happy about it any way so unless it pays a big dividend (which is doesn't) it just might be in jeopardy ... (Google Meigs Field and see how things get done in the State of Illinois ) then if you want a warm fuzzy feeling go pee your pants and wait for it to dry ... Some one is going to pay big money or they can color it gone , if not now in the near future ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I enjoyed my first Grand at Sparta. Lots of Very Good Competitors there along with their Family. Talked with quite a few folks and they were enjoying it even with the High Heat Index. But Vandalia had the same weather. A very nice Lady gave me a ride in her golf cart from the west end over to my truck on the far east end. During our short ride she commented that they have been coming to the Grand since the late 60s. She did say it's still the Grand, but it needs a few more years to get that Grand Feeling. I did an unofficial poll for myself. Interesting out of 20 folks(All Adults) I talked to in Mt Vernon (where our hotel was,and a very nice one) All but 2 had their conceal carry from the state of Illinois. One of the 2 who didn't have theirs was in the process of obtaining it. I wonder folks? When Vandaila first got it start. Were All those Tall Shade Trees there, and was everything close to the shoot. Nope. But a Devoted Group of Trapshooters built the complex. Now if a 40 to 60 miniute drive to Good Dining and Hotels is the complaint. Then my question is why do so many drive to the Cardinal for a day shoot? Then turn around and come back the following days of shooting? Maybe time to just Get Over It. Go to Sparta and enjoy the Friendships and the Sport. He'll You know you like it, and don't give me expense as an excuse. You probably have a $15K or better Gun that your shooting. Heck I bought a 725 Tarp Combo from GU at the Grand. I'll be back with it next year.

How could you tell Brent? Where there 4000 to 5000 shooters in an event or were the numbers lower than before the Korean War?
Yes, Brent. There was an airport there. Dayton was still nearby. Springfield was nearby.
Answers 1. It is part of the mecca of trapshooting. 2. It is not in a gun hate state.
No, not supporting a gun hate state. I would rather lick sandpaper. It is time for you to get over my decision. Gun hate state is for you Brent.
Carp fishing tournament in Sparta. Now that's a good idea.

There are times you are better off talking to a toaster, get the same basic answers ... Everyone is entitled to their own opinion yet there are a lot of people who will never attend or shoot a target at the facility and they are entitled to their opinion also ... Just my take on it ... WPT ... (YAC) ....

Illinois, a state that already has some of the nations toughest gun laws, just enacted even more.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner signed a bill last week that allows Illinois State Police (ISP) to deny an application or revoke a gun owner’s Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) if they have had an order of protection against them or no-contact order in regards to stalking, Guns.com reports Tuesday.

The bill would also compare Illinois’s FOID database against other states to see if other orders have been levied against a person that would also make them ineligible for gun ownership.

The bill unanimously passed both the state House and Senate in April and May, respectively.

Under the law, if a current gun owner is now deemed to be ineligible and served with a revocation order, they would have to surrender their guns and FOID card to the county sheriff. The bill also allows for a new program that would let local law enforcement serve the orders of revocation, which was something designated for ISP in the past.

The owners who have their FOID revoked would then be entered into the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which would bar them from purchasing guns in other states.

The law will go into effect Jan. 1, 2017.

Rauner also signed another bill that strengthens a law disallowing those with mental disabilities from buying guns. Under that law, which went into effect immediately, circuit court clerks would report the names of those deemed mentally disabled by a judge to the ISP twice a year.

In 2015, Deseret News ranked Illinois number eight on a list of states with the toughest gun laws. USA Today reported in April that Chicago has seen an 88 percent increase in shootings during the first three months of 2016, as compared to the same period in 2015.

More recently, Chicago saw 62 people shot over Memorial Day weekend and eight were killed, while more than 50 were wounded during the last weekend ofJune.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Report for 2014 puts Illinois at the fifth highest firearm homicide rate behind Georgia, Pennsylvania, Texas and California. This is despite California having a population triple that of Illinois, and Texas having a population more than double.

Gee, I wonder IF this applies to certain citizens of Chicago ?

We'll see how many more murders go on there after this new law.

Doc, Very little has changed from last year. About 100 yds. of the road needs fixing. The mens Restrooms were very sloppy, and that was in the morning. maintenance was not up to par, but tollerable. The scorers were courteous but not very well trained. The shoot seemed to run smooth. I talked to a few friends who were there, nobody seems to be overly impressed said it was a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle for a few days ... They were heading for the Cardinal Center to check it out and see if its as great as everyone says it is ... I'll talk to them over the week end and find out what they thought ... In the mean time Doctors appointments again today ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
