The BS was flying around the table a few days ago and someone brought up a Ruger Red Label Trap gun. This must be the Unicorn of the sport. I have never seen one. Why did Ruger stop these? Would love to see one.

they had them. not many made. red labels were cursed to begin with. so making a trap gun didnt help the issue.
i do know, they kicked like a mule.

The number that always comes up when talking about the Trap gun is 300.

The total number of their o/u field guns in 12,20 and 28 was over 150,000

it sorta fell into the same niche as mossberg making a model 500 high rib trap gun. it was cool, but it still was a model 500.

The Ruger Trap Gun was just that NOT A RED LABEL. only similarities was the brushed stainless receiver.
I shot one for a few years but never got it set for myself. They only made around 300 to 400 of these. If I remember right the serial numbers started at 100 and ended in the low 400"s

What were the differences between the trap gun and Red Label then? The action seemed very similar to me, but it’s been years since I touched one and never owned one, either.

Yikes! Big money for one of those! I saw the same pic online as Flyer's. Very rare. I hope an owner pops his head up and gives a gun report.

I had one of those Mossbergs with the high rib. I got a flinch and a black eye to prove it. Kicked like a mule and weren't sure when that Mossberg trigger was going to go bang. My first trap gun.

I would like one of those Rugers. Looks good in the pictures.

I started seriously shooting trap with a Ruger Woodside (Red Label). It took me a long way. I always lusted after the Ruger Trap, but the money it would take to acquire one was off-putting. I got a Beretta 682 Gold E Trap X combo instead. This was close to 20 years ago and I still have and shoot it.

I'd still like to have a Ruger Trap, though.

    What was the trigger like?
    Were there two triggers inside!

Why would it have two triggers? It’s a single barrel trap gun

The one I had has a single trigger with one firing pin hole

Why? i wondered that same thing. Answer is Ruger Red Labels all have two triggers. You must know that. Good question since it could be a very convenient gun if a youth could throw a sporting clays barrel on it. Have you ever shot a Ruger Red Label?

BTW I have a Perazzi MX8 it is a top single. And there are two triggers. SMH

No Red Label I've ever seen had two triggers.
I've owned four of them, still own one; all were/are single triggers.
