What is the fastest factory ammo now? 1 1/8

I always shoot the same loads but I am thinking about a change. Time to stock up.

no shortage of 1300 fps stuff at 1.125oz. but that's over the ATA limits. but not in Sporting clays

 

I know Bornaghi makes several loads and I believe the Black Gold is 1600fps. Not legal for ATA or NSSA, but have seen them lying around at several larger NSCA events.

 

My thoughts on this subject is that consistency speed wise from shell to shell is much more important than the actual speed (fps). Wether you shoot 1145's 1200's or the 1235's it has been proven that you can be successful with what ever you shoot if your ammo is consistent. Variations of several (fps) are normally not a problem, but variations of 50 or maybe as much as 100(fps) or more can cause problems from shot to shot. Just my opinion.

I agree totally that ammo should be consistent but I’ll also admit I can swap from a 24gram bunker load all the way to a
1-1/8oz load @ 1290fps and can’t tell a difference in lead etc. My all time favorite 1-1/8oz loads were at 1090, but also shot a lot of 1145. Over the course of shooting mostly ata trap and backyard wild Annie’s for the last 40 years- and velocity has never given me personally any noticably variation in my leads on any shot. Recoil differences I will notice!

 

When was someone disqualified for having ammo that was too fast?

 

Trying out some Long Shot loads on the practice field and was told my shells are illegal. when I ask why? -- said they were to loud.

 

That’s why it has the nickname ‘Loudshot’.
