Hi Grade Shooters Supply, PROBLEM...Update 2/21/24

I'm posting this on the "Shooting page" so more people see it. I met Roy McMahon back in 1978. Purchased a few guns from him over the years. Never a problem. He never wanted to "dicker" much, but the prices weren't out of this world either. Apparently, his wife took over running the business a few years ago. No mention of him in the article.

Two years ago, the widow of a very good friend of ours gave Hi Grade his One Touch and a gorgeous MX8 SC3 to sell. She received dozens of excuses and no call backs for 21 months. We intervened for her with the local police in her home twp. and the DA in Hi Grades area. It took up until late Sept. early Oct. this year for her to get her $22,000. The article doesn't mention the ATF but I would bet they are going to also get involved.

"HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- The owner of a Westmoreland County gun store is facing charges after an investigation into her business sales, the district attorney's office said.

Tracey McMahan is facing multiple charges after the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office said one customer paid her thousands of dollars for a gun that was never received, and another tried to sell a shotgun but never got the money for it.

The district attorney's office said the investigation into McMahan, who owns Hi Grade Shooting Supply, began after a victim contacted Westmoreland County detectives in October.

According to investigators, the victim paid McMahan $4,600 to buy a combo shotgun through her business but the customer never got the gun or a refund. McMahan allegedly provided excuses, saying the firearm was lost in shipping or damaged before she stopped communicating, the district attorney's office said.

A second victim who tried to sell a firearm through Hi Grade Shooters Supply reported a similar situation to detectives.

The district attorney's office said the second victim tried to sell a Beretta shotgun to McMahan's business on consignment for $3,500 but never received the funds.

McMahan was charged with several counts of theft and receiving stolen property. The Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office said she's facing additional charges filed by Pennsylvania State Police. Court documents show she was also charged with theft by deception.

She was arraigned and released on $50,000 unsecured bond, the district attorney's office said."

 

Very disappointing and surprising- I bought several guns from them years ago and had good experiences. Sad to see things come crashing down like this.

Just on the 6:00 PM television news here in the Pittsburgh area today, 2/21/24.

I copied just a little of the newest story. If you google "Westmoreland County gun store charges", you will find the complete article. Not a lot of details yet. The ATF pulled the license, and the place is locked up. The story does say she spent the money for personal reasons.

"A Westmoreland County gun store owner, accused of stealing thousands from her customers, is now heading to trial.

Tracey McMahan, the owner of Hi-Grade Shooters Supply in Youngwood, is facing numerous felony theft charges stemming over the course of several years starting in 2021.
State police and Westmoreland County detectives accuse her of stealing about $150,000 from at least 28 of her customers.

"She's been doing this for several years. We can only imagine how many victims there may be that we don't know of," Trooper Steve Limani said.

Limani said McMahan would take in high-value firearms on consignment and then sell them to people on the internet, shipping them all over the country. Then, she would not give the money to the actual owner. In some cases, the firearms were worth $14,000."

Started in 2021. That's when our friend's widow gave them the two guns I talked about in my original post. She might be the only one that received her money.

9 YEARS later, still here.

To the lurkers like layer of pipe, doc boob-bay, and any other jerk offs that thought this site was a flash in the pan, OOPS! missed that one.

My prediction that the White Elephant in ILLnews would never draw 2500 for the big event they are foolishly calling the GAH was a lot better than theirs.

 

Westmoreland County gun shop owner accused of stealing more than $100,000 from customers.. They were a big presence at PSSA shoots at Elysburg, always displaying a large inventory of new & used trap guns in a big tent just outside the Statehouse. There are instructions to contact the Westmorland Co. DA if you have been a victim.

 

Nice people but awful traders. No wonder they went out of business.

 

This is going to go a lot deeper than just bad trades. Roy had one of the best businesses in the state when he still ran it. From the back room at Ham’s dealership to the building across the lot to the place it was when this all started. It wasn’t someone selling from their basement.
No one knows what happened that made his wife the owner/manager, but we should know more when the trial starts. If they have one.

 

The secret to being a successful salesman is to buy right-in or out of a basement.

 

You have no idea why the business is in this situation.

But I applaud you for sticking up for the little guys that can't compete with the big dealers.

I'll report more on her case as I see or hear it. This thread won't go off the track. I guarantee it.
