The NRA Trap Singles Championship is Not a NRA Event

I recently submitted a letter to the NRA Competitive Shooting Division asking various competition questions about the event at the Grand titled "NRA Trap Singles Championship." It struck me as curious that one had to show an ATA card to shoot in a supposedly NRA match. In pistol shooting, all you need is a NRA card to get into a NRA match.

I received this response from the NRA:

    Mr. XXXXXXXXXX,

I arrived at my office today, after being gone for two months working at the National Rifle and Pistol Championships, and received your letter dated August 17, 2015. In that letter you ask several questions regarding an event called the “NRA Trap Singles Championship” held by the ATA.

I have no knowledge of this event and the NRA Competitive Shooting Division is not involved in any way. NRA Competitive Shooting does not have a shotgun program and does not host any shotgun championships.

I suspect that someone within the NRA might have sponsored this event with the “Champion” title bestowed by the ATA. You might wish to contact the ATA to determine who provided such sponsorship.

    Good shooting.

Some of the questions I asked the NRA were:

"Is the winner of the NRA Trap Singles Championship the official National Rifle Association (“NRA”) Trapshooting Champion for the year"

"Does participation in the NRA Trap Singles Championship result in a NRA Shotgun classification being awarded and added to a shooter’s NRA Shooter Classification?"

"What protections does the NRA have in place to prevent against the possibility that the NRA Trap Singles Champion is not a NRA member?"

As you can see, the answers to all questions are "no" or "none."

Turns out that the so-called “NRA Trap Singles Championship” is just another ATA Singles event. The NRA may not even know who won the match.

You actually admit to taking the time to bother someone at the NRA with those questions?

You actually admit to being so dull and dim and so out of touch with the shooting sports that the questions never crossed your mind? What could you have possibly thought when you saw the name of the event? From such a ridiculous question, it sounds like you're the kind of low-ambition shooter who has never held shot in a NRA match or held NRA Shooter Classification.

Real shooters know what it means when "NRA" is prepended to a competition.

    Like this:

NRA National Pistol Championships - July 6-11, 2015

    or this:

NRA National High Power Rifle Championships -July 23-28, 2015

    or this:

NRA National High Power Rifle Long Range Championships - July 29 - Aug 2, 2015

    Get it?

Well the OP is out of touch as are you since the NRA does not concern itself with shotgun matches just as the ATA is not involved in pistol matches. Just what would you think if you saw in a ATA program a USPSA Doubles Championship, that the USPSA is now shooting Doubles in their pistol matches. Look at any ATA program and you see sponsors and other names in the title and rightly so as they are the sponsors. Dang some of you are as dense as lead.

Why wouldn't he? Go to the NRA for the correct answer, the ATA was using the NRA to gain participation/money to line their ATA pockets, at the Free Expense of the NRA

Is that what the NRA told you Gary? You should ask for correct answers before posting.

Maybe the ATA ask the NRA if they wanted to sponsor an event.

Maybe the NRA called the ATA and as if they could sponsor an event.

Maybe the NRA paid for their sponsorship on their own free will.

    What a dumb circular argument.

Stop and think about your comments, because you're embarrassing yourself. One only knows if match titled a NRA match is truly a NRA match by asking the match billed as a NRA match is indeed a NRA match.

As you why the NRA doesn't conduct smokeless powder shotgun matches, that's for the NRA to answer. It's not self-evident why the NRA would conduct a blackpowder shotgun match but not a smokeless shotgun match.

As it seems you don't shoot competitively, I doubt you've seen this rule book:

    http://compete.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/RuleBooks/Ml/ml-book.pdf

I was going to post the reply, but I was again struck by the utterly stupid idea that it's somehow self-evident that the NRA would not conduct shotgun matches. Just dumb.

Of course, they did, but the event should be titled "Singles Championship by the NRA," just like "ATA Clay Target Championship by Browning." The ATA is using a very misleading event title.

Who gives a rats */). Of all the things to pick a fight over/troll a forum. What is needed is more Trap related info. You know zone shoots, shoots, gun info but instead we get all of this Sparta/Vandalia/Cardinal Center pissing contest in every single thread. No wonder no one is shooting trap like they used too. To many people attacking each other on this site and the other causing those interested to go elsewhere where they will be able to enjoy their new hobby.

Time to heal the divisions or find something else to do.

There are more threads for you to read. You don't have to read them all. You certainly don't have to post in them. If you don't like a thread, keep your mouth shut, and stay out of it.

It's posting news. You're the one trolling by making useless post after useless post of off-topic, uneducated, nasty, uninformed and unintelligent wasteful gibberish. If a topic doesn't interest you, keep quiet, and move on.

Post about that stuff, if you want. Above all, smarten up. Don't read threads that don't interest you. Don't troll threads you don't like.

Well they certainly couldn't name it as you suggest, "Singles Championship by the NRA," simply because it was not a championship. The actual name was "NRA Singles" with the sponsor's name preceding just like every other non-championship event in the Grand program. Just like most sponsored events at any large shoot.

I'll tell you, I'm glad the ATA didn't put sponsor's name preceding the name of the championship events. Nice to see that, in contrast to what happened to the names of the old college football bowl games.
