What problem are you trying to combat? Titanium has stronger tensile strength for a given mass, but its wear properties are worse. There's a reason no one makes titanium 1911 hammers any more. Titanium firing pins in 1911s and ARs were allegedly about trying to reduce locktime...I think the actual benefit is debatable. However, if you're worried about firing pin erosion due pierced primers, you'd likely be worse off than steel because of the wear properties.
I am concerned about the type of wear and had spoke with a gentleman at a tournament with similar problems, he said he had bought titanium pins. My pins (under a magnifying glass) are chipping and thought the titanium may help. But, I think you are right, the titanium is for weight purposes and not durability. And now that you brought up the AR's, I do remember sending off a dozen or so pins for the AR's to be coated, I believe it was a TIN coating. Thanks for the response...I think I was barking up the wrong tree.
