Ceasar Guerinni Summit inertia block troubles

Hi all, I have just started shooting doubles this years and am currently using a CG Summit - over under with 30" barrels. To keep the recoil under control I milled out a pocket into the stock 1.35" X 2.5" X .98" Deep. I also milled this same pocket into another scrap piece of wood and cast hot lead into it. The piece of lead was then slid into the stock and filed flush with the end of the stock and then let the recoil pad hold it in place. It works great. As for the loads I am using .875 OZ. on the bottom for the first shot and 1.125 OZ. for the second. The gun has a nice swing and the recoil does not deter my ability to refocus and hit the second shot. However.....the gun does not always reset the trigger for the second shot. It seems the light .875 load coupled with the lead weight reduces the recoil so much that the inertia block does not always have enough kick to reset the trigger. I have to state that the trigger setup is double release.

1.125 loads in both barrels does work well but my vision is slightly blurred for the second shot.

So I disassembled the inertia block assembly and removed the spring. I had an identical spring with a slightly smaller wire cross section diameter and reassembled. Now the gun works great with the light load shot first and resets every time.

I own a summit combo, and shoot both the O/U barrel and the un-single barrel, I also added weight to the stock by just cutting the longest piece of 1/2" Pex tubing that fits into the back of the stock and filled the Pex plastic pipe with #8lead shot, epoxyed the ends closed and added some duct tape, works well but the lightest loads I shoot are 1oz 1150fps

 

You don't say what the MV is on those loads, Bud.
Try some 1145fps 1 1/8oz loads in the first barrel. They are soft shooting and may be a good compromise for you.

 

I never gave it a thought but it seems a good way to go.
