POLL Black rimmed targets at the Cardinal Center 2022? Yay or Nay?

Reports are there will be blacked rimmed targets thrown at the Cardinal Center. One big reason, is the paint gumming up the arms of the Pat Traps.

I like the idea of any target that is more challenging. I hear it will make the doubles easier. If it makes the caps harder I am all in.

 

Who cares, the SCTP kids don't care what color target they shoot and the ATA is one covid buster shot away from death anyhow.

Change the color to anything. No matter. Just throw them faster!

 

How much faster? Are you suggesting a rules book change?

 

I haven't shot with the tarp, but trying to figure out how adding a black ring, thrown into a black background, is an improvement? Is the plan to throw a 9.5-10 foot target and have the target peak in the sky? Not sure this fascination with a low/slow target is the right direction, based on overall scores I see posted. I look at the scores for some of these smaller State Shoots and marvel at the scores posted with minimal shooters and probably almost no true AAA shooters. I was always a firm believer in getting the target up in the air, where you have a better chance of hitting it!!

 

DEDPAIR, Give us an example of a small state shoot that sets targets higher then 10 ft. so we can check and see if your information is correct. The rule is 9.5 to 10 ft. it is a good rule. Many gun club managers violated the rules, that is why the sport has suffered and it should not be tollerated any longer. THEY SET TARGETS BY THE BOOK OR THEY DO NOT REGISTER TARGETS. ROGER C.

 

At what point did I ever say clubs were throwing higher than 10ft? If you wish to accuse clubs of throwing illegal targets, don't use my words to get you there!! I did infer that the CC was throwing probably an 8-8.5ft to keep it in the tarp, based on almost every single report that's come out of there. No quicker way to ruin a club, than to throw crap targets and discourage all but top shooters to want to go there, especially during current times!

Yes Roger, higher targets(9.5-10ft), but not illegal...LOL...anything to stir the pot and create an issue where none existed. As for Puff targets, it's all about perspective as I think the average shooter wants an easier target. It makes you feel good, and they never ask what the targets were like, when you break a Big score. Throw what the average shooters want, not what the Money/AA shooters want in an attempt to thin the field for bigger pay days or points.

 

I know I have shown this before. Not to scale or the right color reflection, but I believe the target is easier to see with the NY style black rim either on the screen or sky. The psychological affect is in order as far as perception of the size of the target. We all know how psychological trap is. People will bitch because of change, even if they shoot better. If they shoot worse, they have another excuse. Nothing new. Green NY style would be best IMO. Why they don't make these, I don't know. I still can't figure out why they ever made an all full color fluorescent target in the first place. There is no contrast for our eyes to focus on faster.

 

It don't matter what the Cardinal throws I will try to be there to shoot them. I love that place and the curtain was a great improvement. I wouldn't mind them setting them a little higher than what they were at Ohio State shoot, but I was shooting a 12 ga. shotgun and every target I missed was my fault. I was told years ago when I first started shooting trap, if you look for an excuse why you missed you will find something, but just look in a mirror. If they would just fix the damn potholes!!!!!! That's what made me miss!!! Lol.

 

STI, If they had not advertised the change 90% of the shooters would not have noticed the change. they do not know if they are seeing the target plainly or not.

PS; The all orange was made so the small clubs that shot at night could throw them day or night, if you notice the paint is different. That helped not to have two different targets in stock.

 

Not creating an issue. It read like you wanted a higher target than the rule book called for. When the rule was followed I could shoot my way west to east and have about the same target presentation at every club I stopped at, after the cheaters morphed the rule, it was hard to find two fields set the same. I have shot many targets at the C.C., a 10 ft. target does not go above the curtains.

Been a member of my home club since 1977. We only have 5 traps but used to throw enough targets, had 8-10 registered Sunday’s, a 500 marathon, and a big for us 3 day weekend shoot, that we needed 3-4 full trailer loads every year.

We had a 120 man winter league, a Wednesday night summer league that consisted of 6 clubs taking turns, and our Thursday night club shoots which were very large. We would start around 5:00pm and shoot until 11:00pm. The early years we unloaded loose cartons by hand on skate wheel conveyors then went to the shrink wrapped pallets and a forklift

I was on our board 4 or 5 different times and I can say that is exactly the reason we went to all orange. Between the breakage changing over and the complaining about WHEN we changed it was decided to just go all orange and be done with it.

The breakage wasn’t bad when you had a kid in the house but when the turret traps came about and you had to unload the orange domes and reload the Whites it was a different story. You can imagine trying to put all those daylight targets into boxes and setting them aside so you could reload. Nightmare is a good word.

We “older guys” can remember how good those White targets looked under the lights.

 

Warm summer nights in July or early August, you and your shooting pals would be on a squad at your home club shooting those White targets. Someone would always say,

Well boys, this is what it's going to like when you have to shoot off at the Grand so pay attention.

Funny thing is, some of us really did end up shooting off in front of those grandstands. (Fellow member Shamus)
