I was at a friends home,he has his own trap set up. Several of us were shooting and enjoying ourselves when my friends daughter came out carrying a gun case and asked when it was her turn. She is 13 years old and started shooting 5 months ago. She was shooting an old Mossberg bolt action with a broken magazine spring and very short barrel, probably 22/24 inches long. She busted 14 out of 15 clays. Those of us with the o/u and browning BTs were quite embarrassed.

Must be God given talent...wish I had some of what she displayed...Also, makes you wonder why we all buy these expensive guns...Her Mossberg was $25 at a local gun show, and it didn't even function properly.

First, it is great a "young" person has an interest in "guns" and "shooting" .....

Having said that, the fastest way to make a "13 year old" stop shooting very quickly, is getting their scalp lifted from harsh recoil.

A soft shooting semi-auto is hard to beat for a "young" shooter, if they have plans on shooting "long term".

Let me explain further...she started shooting clays 5 months ago...she has been shooting targets for quite some time...handgun and rifle. The recoil didn't seem to have any affect on her.

There is a big market for 3k stocks and release triggers because of "recoil" felt by grown men and women.

A "young" shooter needs to have "adults" take better care of the "problem" before they quit, or become dependent on these "cures".

Again, great for her and the interest in "shooting" ..... I just hope someone helps her with recoil management before it is too late.

You obviously never got to see Ray Stafford shoot from the hip and break target after target, , now that's amazing ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

It makes no sense to me that "avid shooters for a number of years", would have a "13 year old shooting an old Mossberg bolt action with a broken magazine spring and very short barrel" ..... "Her Mossberg was $25 at a local gun show, and it didn't even function properly."

Not my story, but most "avid shooters" KNOW young shooters are sensitive to "recoil" ..... AND should not be shooting something that "didn't even function properly."

The old mossberg was one her father had purchased years ago. She also has a 20 gauge o/u that she shots regularly...also a Mossberg... The bolt action wouldn't feed from the magazine...they were just messing around with it.
