"in the terms of number of annual participants, is undoubtedly trapshooting."

So ... if the "ATA" thinks it can resolve the red-ink problems at the "Complex" with "trapshooting", then just how many "dates" do they think are open that would not be in conflict with other "ATA" shoots ??????

Do they expect shooters to never go home, and just keep going back to the "Complex" if there are any open days ?????

It is one thing to have tunnel-vision, but wanting to cut the throats of existing shoots to bring customers to your shop is not leadership.

They obviously never managed an ATA affiliated gun club or understand the fierce competition for shoot dates that currently exists. They'll wither on the vine same as their US Open never gained traction. Fools!

That's not much of a Reccomendation, unless it is fill 2 holes in the Road, But sh*t just ooooozes out of anything you put it in, from bad to worse that's the Talking Head Gipson and the ATA way. He wants to add more income to his teaching retirement STRF Another of those that WPT had tp lock out of AZ Backroom and Booze and snacks. The man that is needed is Paul Shaw, but I do not think he will accept.!!!!

    Doc,

I am sure that many would second your choice of Paul Shaw.

I would say he is by far the best Delegate I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Paul is Fair, HONEST, and has a very good grip on how things should be run.

Unfortunatly, what you said I agree with...Paul would probably never accept the position.

The Obama administration, the ATA EC, ED, and many of the BOD are very much alike in many ways ... Obama is Anti America and Anti American people (except our money for vacations) much the same as those mentioned are against doing things for and in favor of the general membership of the ATA as a whole other than what they can get out of it for personal gain and expenses which will eventually lead to a new shot gun of choice for XX,XXX number of dollars for doing little or nothing to actually promote the sport of trapshooting as well as preserve the future of for generations to come ... The Members and clubs promote, support, and grow the sport far more than anything the ATA has ever done other then be there to collect the fees and keep records ... The Good Ol' Boys club is alive and well ... If the ATA don't figure it out they will not need a BOD, ED, or EC, all they will need is a manger and committee for any violations (enforcement) to watch over the offices and stay on top of the staff doing to record keeping and data entry ... The Martins did more in 2 or 3 years to promote the grand than the ATA has ever done other than send out programs , and they still do ... WPT ... (YAC) ....

I think Dean Townsend would be a perfect fit as the Director of the WSRC. I hope the position is offered to him and that he is able to relocate to Sparta as soon as possible to get started.

We ATA members should not support or employ any present or previous member as President, EC, ED, BOD for the last 20 years to any position in the ATA period

Every position must be voted on by Life Members, and Annual Members, w/ 3 years of continuous membership, for approval.

This would be the first step in Cleaning House, Getting officers with Honesty and Integrity.

Dean shot at the old Dublin Gun Club here in Cols. ,Ohio while he was going to Ohio State U. back in the mid. 70's

The entire OSU Trap team shot there on Wed. eve's.

He has taken an avid interest in Trapshooting over the years.

FWIW he would be a decent choice with a Ohio connection.

I shot at DUBLIN GUN CLUB for years, Dean must have been an OSU Student then, Phil Stith shot there too, along with the Red Head Auctioneer from Sunbury, Ohio
So many of my friends shot there too, Bob Colegrove, Paul Hanley who owned a Steak House on Sullivant close to my Uncle,s Attorney Office, G. Arlowe Bryant.

    Gary,

Wouldn't this be a State of Illinois position? How does it become an ATA decision? If you want your input to be heard contact the same guy that Gipson did and voice your opinion. Pretty simple, and you don't have to be a life member or 3 consecutive year annual member to do it.

    IA and Gary,

Could be the point is that Gipson is from the ATA and "is Gipson meddling" by telling the state who to hire for a state position. Would this guy be a benefit to Gipson's business?

Would this guy be a benefit to the ATA? So why is it becoming an ATA position? Trying to guess the OP's angle.

I see it has Gipson making a recommendation on who he would like to see hired. I seriously doubt that he could have any significant influence over any decisions the EX Director of the complex could make. He obviously likes the guys and must feel that he could work with him and that maybe the he would have the ATA's best interests in mind.

As ATA members shouldn't we want a person that would try to keep the ATA's interests in mind? I don't know Mr Townsend so can't make a statement that he would or wouldn't be good for the WRSC and/or the ATA.

My main point was that Gary needs to direct his comments to the people that control the decision...the State of Illinois.

Most people on this site think the facility will be closed anyway, so it's kind of mute point.

I'm not sure the OP has an angle, other than to post information on this site that he obtains.

I agree but we have more here.
Not a mind reader. Assuming you are not either. But there is still the glaring fact that Gipson has other interests. Is he looking out for the interest of the ATA Corporation, the shooters, or a smidgen towards his business deal at the WSRC?
Me either but I know Gipson has multiple interests. And now we all know he has an interest in Townsend.

  24. iowa guy

iowa guy Mega Poster Founding Member

Yes Gipson had multiple interests but I don't know where he potential conflicts would be. It would seem to me that his personal interests would only benefit if the WRSC is healthy.

I guess you could assume that he might expect that his endorsement of Townsend might benefit his chance of the lead mining contract at some point.

Lynn Gipson is part of a shot reclaiming business, operates a retail gun sales at the WSRC , and is the ED being paid $136,000 plus benefits by the ATA ... If (when ) the shot gets reclaimed at the WSRC one would think the bids would go to and be forwarded to the EC by the ED , so he would obviously have an insiders advantage when it comes to bidding for the job ... Then there is always how much really was collected and how would you know unless you had someone right there as it was being done ... One barrel of shot is over 3,000 #'s which adds up to many dollars in a short time period if its not accounted for ... I would say those business's would be cause to claim a conflict of interest taking everything into account ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

If I feel or think someone is a thief first person I would tell that to would be that person face to face, then its no longer a rumor ... Is the lead reclaimation part of the ATA's responsibility? I would think the lead would belong to the WSRC/IDNR. Why would the ATA be involved unless it's part of their contract with the IDNR?

Good question , never been divulged that I personally know of ... The lead could or may never be an issue but as a betting man, I will give ODDS that if and when the lead gets reclaimed Gipson's company will be right in the mix and have obvious advantages to take advantage of same ... There is a lot of money involved in reclaiming lead, the more there is the more money involved ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Bill, Was Roger C part of the management of the Pheonix club? Did his business supply traps or traps parts or service? If yes to both of those questions there was no less potential of a conflict of interest there than there is with Gipson and his lead business.

For the record, I never threatened anyone for any reason ... I tell it like it is, you don't like it, do not read it ... I suggest if making accusations doing it face to face would be the honorable thing to do, that goes for you also Leonardis ... We can all sit back and watch what happens when someone has a conflict of interest gets involved and who gets to perform what service (at a cost ) when the time comes ...

"Talk to me face to face sometime but until then and you know the facts best to keep mouth shut and not make any false accusations ... WPT ... (YAC) ..."
Not sure how anyone could or would take that as a threat, but only makes sense ...

I do not have to prove anything to you Leonardis, people who know me and have been friends for years know me and what I am made of ... I believe part of the rules of most sites are : Do not say anything to a person unless you would say that to their face, in a face to face meeting ... I live by that and totally believe in it ... I always say, "DO NOT ASK ME, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW", because I will tell you like it or not ... ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

    Iowa Guy,
Roger sold parts to the club at his cost and on credit so the club could stay in operation and keep the machines running, I guess if you can find fault with that more power to you ...
If that would constitute a conflict of Interest , I guess he would be guilty of same ... There was NO financial gain on his behalf so it might be more be more of a favor than a business transaction (technically) ... Roger and the board covered a lot of things to make thing happen out at the old club by putting up interest free loans to the club and buying "Shoot cards", which I still have several of if you'd like to buy one ...

QRP was (is) probably the best source for obsolete and antique parts in the industry and they were local if we needed anything post haste ... Roger did put a trap on Field 5 to see how it would hold up under extreme usage , we didn't charge him to get that data for him (oopps) ... Roger was also the Remington distributor and drop shipped factory shells for the Autumn Grand as well as the Spring Grand on more than one occasion (on the cuff) ... If you can see any problems with those case scenarios, I guess we were guilty of something, not sure what though ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Wow, I can feel the love in the room :) I can add a little help here, while at the ATA we didn’t have anything to do with reclamation work at Sparta.

I can also assure you a "conflicted interest" was not a problem, they just did an executive session and waived it!

Bill, glad to hear how things worked in AZ. There is little doubt in my mind that all will be similar in Sparta.

The lead mining issue is only a potential conflict if the ATA controls the process. The original lease was posted on this site a while back. I don't recall seeing lead reclamation being either the right or responsibility of the ATA. Then, even if the ATA controls it the bid process could, and should, be structured to remove any possible improprieties. Of course even if Gipson won the bid by submitting the best outcome to the ATA OR STATE I'm sure some would claim wrong doing etc.

But I don't see how this is even germain to the Townsend recommendation.

I don't know if Townsend would be the right person simply due to his ATA/trapshooting experience. This place is definitely more than a trap range. The job needs to be filled by someone with promotional experience that can reach across to all shooting sports.

    No,
The lead mining issue is a problem if the IDNR and or a charitable org is involved. The Illinois Attorney General can help you with that issue.

Many of us in OH wish Dean could pack his bags soon and get to work. :)
