Family Guy, love the pictures of the kids shooting! The CC is on My bucket list to shoot some day. Came close this year, but did not have enough time to get there while I was in Ohio. Thanks for posting.

One attribute of the CC for a tournament like this is the variety of terrain. From the green trap fields, the Beech trees to the wheat fields in the back.

One of my favorite photos of the week. For this group it was more than just a few days away from home.

Special thanks to all the shooters that tolerated my presence. fg

If it is him, can't believe Hunter44 would stoop so low as to attend a shoot at the Cardinal in lieu of Sparta?

    Tell me it ain't so.

hunter44 joined the "other" site in 1998. That would make him around 40 yo and a bit old to be shooting in this one. My understanding is he's currently busy attending live bird shoots and providing mouth to beak resuscitation to the injured birds!

How could anyone not give them (SCTP) credit for seeing and reading the writing on the wall, then making the move to secure the future for these fine young people ... This might just be the future of the clay target sports ... There are a few of those young ladies who probably should be Models but they can continue to shoot on the side ... The Cardinal Center deserves a pat on the back for making the facility available to them ... The future of trapshooting depends on people like them to keep it alive and well ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Planning for the future is paramount for any organization and the SCTP made the only sensible move. It's sad what is happening to the World Shooting and Recreational Complex shooting program(s) but many predicted the possibility of serious troubles during the early discussions on relocation.

I'll never understand why organizations don't feel it necessary to have a Plan B on the books and review & tweek it annually with the hopes that it will never have to be implemented. Abut 20 years ago after loosing electric at the club during our State Shoot I proposed that a Plan B be formulated should this or any other issues (such as noise injunctions) cause the club to cease operations during our State Shoot. You would have thought I said something in an ancient language by the looks I got. To this day I have never heard that my State Association acted on my recommendation to establish a Plan B.

The SCTP leadership quickly learned that their decision to remove to the Cardinal Center was a huge financial win. I would guess they are starting to learn of many benefits they never thought about before. The many more connections with those wanting to provide some method of support for "youth shooting."

Yes, Mr. Fishburn and his Cardinal Center does deserve recognition. He has once again come to the forefront making another helpful offer.

I was present when he and his group offered land, money and possible construction labor & materials to build a new museum for the Trapshooting Hall of Fame.

Additionally, I don't know many who have the ability or desire to assume the cost of constructing new Skeet fields and new rifle and pistol ranges for young shooters, then request only a 1-year lease from the SCTP. Yes, Mr. Fishburn is very deserving of our acknowledgement, respect and gratitude in my view.

I've seen 1 or 2 comments from SCTP parents/coaches who are located close to the WRSC lamenting the move to CC cause it was too far to drive.

    Saaaay Whaaaat?

It might just be to far for some of the folks, you would think the amenities would count for something but then again maybe not ... Imagine driving too far and once you get there, there is nothing there except of course Wal Mart ... I would imagine more people are pleased with the location than are opposed to it , especially since the other place was eliminated even if on a temporary basis ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Jake told me earlier this week that the drone video of the Cardinal Center has had 26,000 views. Someone, somewhere out there in internet land must be interested in the SCTP shoot in July. I can't wait. Brad

I just found it ironic that some folks that have a convenient drive to the WRSC are now complaining about the drive to CC. "Convenience" is a consideration when planning to attend any event, including the Grand.

While shooting the Gator Cup at Quail Creek (Fla), one of the pullers was a SCTP coach and parent of the Quail Creek sponsored SCTP team. 100 team members! When he saw I was from Ohio, he had a bunch of questions about CC. His biggest complaint about the WRSC was lack of entertainment and restaurants for 100 kids and parents.

I had previously never considered that as an issue, but many of the SCTP teams camp, hang out, and eat in a large group together. His little subgroup was nearly 30 people. They were anxious to see CC as they had heard much about it.

The SCTP folks made the right move at the right time after seeing all of the uncertainly that is hovering around the facility in Sparta, Ill ... Their intent is to obviously preserve their organizations place and take it into the future for all of the members involved ... The lack of infrastructure eliminates convenience for many people so they just choose to stay away and go else where ... The talk 11 years ago was that Vandalia at one time was not built up any more than Sparta was but in time Sparta would turn into another Vandalia and Hotels, Motels, theaters, lounges, restaurants etc would soon be all over the place for people to enjoy ... Build it and they will come, well they built it and no body came, Sparta with the exception of the Holiday Inn and WSRC is not much different today than it was 11 years ago ... Sparta is off the beaten path and not many big Corporations would look at and or consider investing a lot of money in the general area for a multitude of reasons ... The population of Sparta is actually less than it was 11 years ago, so people are leaving and heading to greener pastures ... The major corporations would probably find it difficult to fill Key positions , but that does depend on the nature of their business and if they can find people willing to relocate to the area ... The SCTP will find it a lot more convenient once they get the initial traveling out of the way, with a lot more to do for all involved ... GOOD MOVE SCTP ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I talk with Jake and Luke every other day or so, yesterday I asked Jake more specifics about the drone video viewers of the Cardinal Center and if he could track when and how many viewers they were getting. He told me that it was now over 27,000 views but in a 24 hour period it was viewed 11,000 times. He's hooked it in on facebook somehow and the SCTP crowd, handgun shooters and skeeters are now aware of the CC and the good deal we trap shooters have had. Rosey is 100% on track there is so much interest from the Ohio Division of Wildlife, the local businesses, the Ohio politicians that right now the SCTP is being overwhelmed with offers of help and support.

Jack is really excited about what is going on, he really wants to support kids and all the shooting sports like he has trap shooting.

I know of a couple of WHALES that are interested in helping out financially but I won't say who, they will announce it when the SCTP is ready. It's going to be a fun summer at the Cardinal this year. Brad

I can see where some of the SCTP are now going to have a longer drive, but i would think the CC would be closer for the vast majority of shooters?

Not really. There are a lot of teams from west of the Mississippi including Alaska.
I would guess it's probably pretty even though Illinois is closer to the middle of the country than Ohio.

I went through the SCTP site. There are 311 teams listed in the 24 states west of the Mississippi.
There are 504 teams listed in the 26 states east of the Mississippi. That's including the Collegiate teams also.

Every state west has at least 1 team.
There are 3 states east, Mississippi, Rhode Island and West Virginia that have no teams listed.
Tennessee on the east has a whopping 118 teams listed while Iowa leads the west with 51.

No list I could find shows numbers for AIM teams by state the way SCTP does.

The teams from Kentucky will find out sooner or later that long yardage is not 22 yards ... They teach at KSU how to work the system and make money at the big shoots ... (tongue in cheek) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Here is the total members within the SCTP for the top 20 states by number. These numbers are from all disciplines. I have not received a participant number by individual disciplines. I was also able to get a few words from SCTP’s National Director.

Here are a few words from the SCTP National Director.

    =====================

I am very excited about this year!!

We have had more new sponsors get on board this year than ever before and more past sponsors upping their support than ever before….many details are forthcoming!

With many more hotels/motels in a much closer proximity, teams/families will have many more options than they did in Sparta.

There are about 30-40 hotels in a 20 mile radius of Cardinal Shooting Center VS the 5-6 we had in Sparta!

The Columbus airport is only 31 miles from the shooting facility, after picking up a rental car it only took me 27 minutes to pull in at the Cardinal after leaving the airport!

I believe it may be our best event to date!

We will have more Industry attending, more prizes to give away, and more/new sponsors attending.

The NGB’s, they are supporting our SCTP Scholarship program like greater than ever. We are hoping that we will give away $100k+ this year alone in scholarships to SCTP graduating seniors!! I think that is a really big deal and that’s what I call giving back!

I Look forward to seeing everyone and wish all SCTP members could make it to Ohio!
