I called the International Defensive Pistol Association. Goal to find out if there are any correlations or trends in trapshooting that may be the same in the pistol competition sports.

You may want to note an IDPA club shoots at Sparta.

A pleasant voice by name of Sandra at IDPA lured Rob Ray, Operations Manager to the phone. I began by asking Mr. Ray how the closing of Sparta affected his sport. He implied it did not affect them on a national level. I was curious as to why?

"We don't have a major event there since there are not enough pistol shooters in the area. We have some locals that shoot there. There is an arc of pistol shooters that extends from Wisconsin thru Ohio and PA and down the New England states. We of course have more interest in the TX, OK area."

Correlations...you guys can decide. I asked if they had made the sport easier or more challenging in the last 10 years. His answer...."all in all we have made it more challenging."

Rob continued...."Our membership numbers have been steadily increasing over the last 10 years and we expect more growth."

You may wonder if Rob's family has any ties to trapshooting. The answer is yes as his wife coaches the local high school trapshooting team.

They made the game more challenging and grew. We made the game easier and lost members. They have their big shoot near the majority of their members. We make our members drive to the middle of nowhere.

The Skeet Org. was first to make their target presentation easier for the masses. Clubs lost money in shoot-off targets since it took a lot before a miss.

Our Org. has followed this same path in making an easier target to hit. We'll pay dear for that MISTAKE ONE DAY too!
