What do you do to prepare for extremely noisy and disruptive shooting conditions?

ie; porch, parking lot, peanut gallery, to close to trap line, or somebody pinching the baby to make him / her cry, horns blowing, fist fights breaking out behind you, etc.

Wildcat Lewis, What you are describing is something that bothered me a lot at big shoots. So in 1985 I started using a Walkman with recorded songs that I liked. This gave me the same background noise at small and large shoots. The noise at the grand in Vandalia used to be really bad, there would be spectators standing 3 or 4 feet behind you on some traps when we were shooting 27 yards.

I have a set of blue tooth ear plugs and enough music on my iPod to relax me for any length of time.

I think the noise issue was worse for me when we had real live pullers than it was with voice pulls. I was always jumpy at fast pulls and then get that slow pull thrown at me, NOT GOOD. It was better for me to not hear all the background noise and then not anticipate a bad pull. I guess ignorance is bliss. Phil Kiner made an industry out of selling noise background tapes for a few years in the 90's. Brad

I had a Tape player and I recorded my own message after Lee Davidson " Keep your head down & Break the little sons-a-bitches" over & Over on a continuous tape

I bought one of those tapes w/Ocean Waves & Subliminal message, I bought rods, reels and a bass boat.

Tell them the story about the radio host that knew you were listening to his channel and started talking to you, that was funny.

Brad were dying to hear it............................

Here's one that got me; A few years ago a friend of mine was shooting the Clay Target Championship at the Grand, ran 6 box's and somewhere in the seventh box he pulled the gun into his shoulder, set his trigger and just before calling for the target he thought "what if my forearm breaks" we all know what happens next. When he was telling me this afterwards I asked him if he had been having trouble with the forearm as he was shooting his Kolar and I'd never heard anything about there forearms having issues. His answer "no, never", been shooting the gun for years and it never had any problems of any sort, have no idea why it entered my mind! The next week I was shooting the 200 Singles Championship at the Cardinal Classic. Fought that breaking forearm thought off for every target until late in the seventh box, still straight, when walking from station five back to station one a little aggravating small pieces of gravel stuck to the bottom of my shoe. For some reason I didn't have to fight off the forearm breaking thought on the next shot but that little piece of gravel under my foot entered my mind just after setting the trigger! Lost was the word I heard next...............

We gotta hear the one about the broadcaster and please tell us a good one on Leo while your at it.

Brad told the someone in the media he was listening to the Dayton oldies station while on the line shooting. A day or so later he was on the line shooting handicap and the DJ said "hey Brad Dysinger are you out at Vandalia listening to us" he went on for a few minutes about how great he thought it was that Brad was a fan of his station. Brad told me I trying to concentrate but had to listen to what the guy said.

After reading the posts, I ordered and just received some noise canceling/bluetooth head phones...no wires dangling down.
    Works great!

I had a 30 second continuous tape player, and installed small speakers in my Headsets, it was a recording of Winchester Rep, "LEE DAVIDSON" famous words,
"Concentrate, Keep Your Head Down, Break the little sons a bitches" That was my answer to background noise. I just recently bought a BLUE TOOTH PLAYER
w/a 1000 songs to use, will see how it works. I bought it at Walmart on a Clearamce Shelf for $10.00 w/rechargeable battery.
