A shooting bud of mine was a runner-up @ a state shoot in the handicap championship event-340 shooters participated--he shot a 99, his prize was a $45.00 Cabelas gift certificate

I have a friend who got a stick on flashlight at a shoot with a lot more people than that.

I was the handicap event winner last fall at a major shoot. My prize was 2 boxes of no name shells. I keep them as a reminder of how futile this sport truly is.

I have received over the years, flashlights, picture frames, frying pan, shotshells, leather and mugs. At least you can buy what you want with the gift card.

The thing that struck me was they couldn't even get it for an even $50?

You ought to know by now you don't shoot trap for trophy's, you shoot for the enjoyment of the sport and friend's. Yesterday is gone shooting for silver and car's. If it's too expensive for you, the bowling lanes are open

It's not that it's too expensive. Even when you win it's not enough to justify the cost. I don't like betting $5.00 to win $5.50.
No money in bowling. That's why we now go to casinos.

When I Shoot well enough for a trophy I'd like a trophy or a silver plate or something I can display in my gun room. That way every time I walk in there and see a trophy from a certain shoot it brings back the memories of my shooting buddies past and present. I'm sorry but a gift card doesn't do that. The cost of this sport has only gone up and I would expect better from a state association. I'm sorry if that offends anyone but that is my opinion.

In my case, I bet $36 to win $10.

I recall once at Redlands about 40 years ago winning a water hose for a class win in a winter chain. I must say however, it was a strawberry flavored hose. That is to say, when the water came out it smelled like strawberries.....LOL

Lazy on part of the State shoot Committee. There are plenty of good trophies available in that price range. Money is the worst prize possible at a State level shoot. No memories made there..

How about a used bowling trophy thumbnail.jpg with a turkeys foot glued on top -- Label reads -- "Number one shooter"

rrisum - I’ve gotta ask what club that ‘trophy’ came from? I can’t stop laughing at that thing! Was that for a turkey shoot or trap event?

I helped run a few just for fun sporting shoots years ago. We would get 25-30 people, most of them hard core ata shooters, to go to one of the local sporting courses and then back to our home club for food and beer which was included in the total cost to each shooter. No lewis but a lot of side bets. Just something to do when it wasn't a Trap weekend.

The trophy was about 18" tall. A wood and fake brass base and a faux marble pillar which supported the 3" X 3" top.
Since this trophy was for the LOWEST score the top was an appropriate "gold" plated commode. I don't remember if the lid was up or down.

Now the rule, my rule, was that the recipient had to not only take the trophy home and display it but that it had to be in a very conspicuous place, like the mantel or right out front in his trophy case or on his shelf. If anyone ever knocked on the door and demanded to see the trophy he had to let them in without delay and show them. I put this in because one guy decided to display his trophy by putting it behind his furnace. The winner would relinquish the trophy to the next shoots "winner". Unless of course he shot so bad that he got to keep it.

I don't know where it ended up. Probably behind someone's furnace.

Better than the ones we used to give.

We called ours the CRASH AND BURN trophy which we made by melting the shooter on the top of the trophy into a blob.

We sure had a lot of fun with that trophy as well.

Redlands many years ( 40+) ago gave out these little 10" B&W TV's with an antenna for class wins. They must have bought a truckload of them. I had about 8 or10 of them at one time. Kept one in the bathroom for watching the morning news while I shaved. They generally crapped out after a few months in the humidity.
