Yesterday I received this notice from a gun club I am a life member of in Upstate New York.

Seems now the State Police have upgraded their computer system and will be able to now enforce one more part of the SAFE ACT if Cuomo, Shumer, and others get their way.

NY shooters may want to keep a close eye out for further developments.

    To: Subject: ammo background check.

I just got back from a local gun club where we shoot skeet on a weekly basis. One of our shooters is an active law enforcement officer in Wayne County. He had attended a meeting last week with the State Police and other local police agencies. One of the things that was discussed is ammunition background checks.

The leader of the NY state legislature has been putting pressure on our Governor to implement the ammunition background check provision of the Safe Act. Previously that technology was not perfected, however they now have an ammunition background check program that recently went on line in California.

The new NY State Police superintendent has met with the Governor and the superintendent has made it a priority to bring the ammo background check program online in our state.

Unknown at this time is if you will have to pay a fee for the background check, but they will also limit the amount of ammunition you can purchase each month.

So, if you are a hunter, recreational or competitive shooter may I suggest you stock up now.

My opinion is this will do nothing but take business out of New York state and give it to neighboring states.

And of course this will do NOTHING to deter the BAD GUYS, only hurt the law abiding citizens.

And those Bone Heads up there don't stop to think about the sales tax tax money from ammunition sales will drop off tremendously.

We'll have to keep an eye on this, and hope if implemented up there, it doesn't spread to other states at an alarming rate.

Don't ya love a Democratic run State ?

Seattle has a tax on ammo 5 cents on all ammo per round, except 22 cal. which is 2 cents per round--think they sold zero rounds in Seattle after the law went into effect

Neighboring towns are now making $$$

    635 G,

    Spot on !

And my buddies in NY are telling me if they have a limit on the monthly purchases, they will be reloading their shotgun shells more than ever once again.

That will be good for those who sell components.

Some who live close to Pennsylvania will be purchasing their shells out of state also.

DUMB states don't have a clue..

Just pass dumb laws that will hurt not only the sportsmen but their own states.

AND, they put out questionnaires to those of us who have departed NY asking WHY ???

Now, that is really a stupid question !!!!!

New Jersey, and their stupid laws, are making shooters leave at a rapid pace also.

One of our own is the latest leaving NJ to live in a better state.

NJ Has got to be the dumbest state going, you can go to jail for possessing a hollow point--they consider hollow point hand gun ammo as "cop killer bullets"-- they would rather you have ball ammo, that can go through a person and several interior rooms--was visiting family and went to a Jersey trap range--they had a LEO stationed @ the entrance--gives you that warm welcoming feeling--like NYC range in Staten Island--trap gun must have a trigger lock

I'm living for free in Fl when compared to NJ

My daughter bought a farm in the finger lakes area of New York. She is a resident of Ohio. A couple of years ago she received an off for about 18 acres of it, She sold the parcel. Then found out if a non resident sells property in N.Y. there is a 10% tax on the sale.
(question) If a N.Y. resident retires and moves out of state before selling all of their property, are they liable for this tax?
These liberal states are driving many of their citizens away. what in the hell are they thinking? Roger C.

    Roger,

I also lived in the Finger Lakes (outside Canandaigua, in the country) for over 60 years, moved but before I registered as a resident of my new state I sold my place and land up there.

From what you are saying, sounds like I got lucky !
