Sorry to hear that Mr. Dan Orlich passed away today, 1/18/19.

I started in the early seventies and any time anyone started to tell the boys how he was going to break a great cap score from the fence and win the shoot we always laughed and said, " yeah right, who do you think you are, Dan Orlich?"

That was the ONLY name we ever used. Wind, rain, bright sun, 3 hole, human pullers, it didn't matter to him. And from what I have read about him, a true gentleman.

Our sport has truly lost a legend. When Dan came to the Grand a couple of years ago we had a photo snapped of Dan, C E Barnhart, George Snellenberger, and myself that I will always cherish. Our condolences to family and friends.

Dan Orlick, truly a great guy. Dan was 94 years old when he passed, he played pro football for the Packers in the 50s.Dan had macular degeneration for the last ten years but that didn't keep him off the range. Dan had a great support group here in Reno, Nevada. Dan's shooters friends would regularly bring him to the local clay target clubs where he would give advice on how to improve your trapshooting game or just drive the group around the sporting clays course in a golf cart. When in the club house Dan would tell great stories about trapshooting and the great old trap shooters.

I had the good fortune to wind up on a handicap squad with Dan Orlich in an early part of the program event at Tucson one year. One of the squad members had not yet arrived and the squad had a hole. It is one of my fondest memories in trap shooting.

I was at a large shoot in Nevada in the early 70's and asked Dan if he could give me some advice on my poor doubles shooting. He gladly spent time with me, and said I was over powering the forend with my left hand. He said ''relax your grip, cause gravity will bring the gun down anyway when you swing to the 2nd bird, stay smooth''. I've never forgot that.
    RIP
