There was little publicity. I learned of Ruthie Hunter's passing weeks later.

Mr. Hunter befriended me some years back. He took time to give me a friendly call several times every year. It was always nice talking to Bill. It took me quite a while to finally call him by his first name rather than Mr. Hunter. I have much respect for all he's done for trapshooting going back probably 40 years or so and calling him Bill (as he asked me to) just didn't seem to be giving him the respect I felt he deserved. I'm taking the liberty of posting information on Ruthie's passing because many have not heard of it and thought readers would be interested. I hope Mr. Hunter does not mind.

I received a nice card from him. Mr. Hunter still uses an old typewriter when corresponding and it always brings a smile when I see how those old keys struck the paper.

Mr. Hunter thanked me and the Mrs. for our remembrance for his "dear Ruthie." We sent a card of condolence and made a contribution to the Trapshooting Hall of Fame in honor and memory of Ruthie Hunter. I'll share some of his words. Bill writes :

"We had a beautiful graveside service for my dear Ruthie, it was a lovely day, bright sunshine, no wind, just her day! During the service there was a train whistle in the background she loves trains so I'm sure she had something to do with that!"

Bill is in his 90's and of late has been dealing with some health issues. If anyone would like to offer their condolences and/or well wishes to Mr. Hunter his contact information is below:

I appreciated reading more about Ruthie's life. Quite a lady in my opinion.

This beautiful poem in expressing my thoughts completely, also brought me a few happy tears. Rest in Peace Mrs. Hunter.

Thank you HB for posting this.I too enjoyed meeting Bill and Ruthie some years ago at a Vegas shoot. Their friendliness was great and my wife and I stayed in touch with them and we even went to visit them a few years ago.
I spoke with Bill a week ago and he seems to be handling the passing of Ruthie in stride. Anybody who knew Ruthie will miss her. She was such a gem.
Bill is at the office daily and as HB stated stills types out all of his correspondence.
